DESIGN .FOR A GEARlNG-COVER FOR VEHICLE-FRAMES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31 ,325, dated August 1, 1899.
Application filed July 5, 1899. Serial No. 722,882. Term of patent 14 years.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MOSES O. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States;and a resident of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and 5 State of Connecticut, haveinventedanew and original Design for a Gearing-Cover for Vehicle-Frames; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the same, and said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figure l, a View in side elevation of a gearing-cover embodying my design; Fig. 2, a
viewin front elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 a View in rear elevation of the gearing-cover.
My invention relates to a design for a gearing-cover for a bicycle or the like which as a whole is especially adapted 'as an article of :o manufacture to be connected to or form part of the frame of a bicycle or like vehicle. This gearing-cover, when used as described, comprises a casing for the crank-shaft, connecting-shaft, and also for the gearing at the i 5 crank-hanger and at the rear end of the bicycle-frame and my invention consists in the configuration of the structure, as hereinafter described and shown in the drawings.
The structure as a whole comprises a circu- ;o lar part a, as viewed in side elevation, a circular part b of smaller diameter, and an elongated central portion 0, extending from below the part b to a point above the part a. The part c terminates at each end in enlargements at and e of cylindrical form in outline and having walls which merge into the walls of the parts a and b, respectively.
When viewed in front elevation, as in Fig. 2, the part a appears as cylindrical in outline, with a portion a of smaller diameter than the circular portion a, above which the circular end of the part at appears.
When viewed in rear elevation, the oblong outline of the short cylindrical part 7) appears above the circular outline of the end of the part 6, the walls of these two parts merging into each other.
The essential feature of'my design is the arrangement of the gear-covers a b, the former larger in diameter than the latter, with the connecting parts d c 6 extending diagonally across between the parts a and b, the part (1 overlying the part a, and the part 6 underlying the part b.
I claim-- The design for a gearing-cover for vehicleframes substantially as shown and described.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MOSES C. JOHNSON.
