Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES FRANKLIN MOFADDEN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, AS- SIGNOR TO GEORGE H. MCFADDEN & BROTHER, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A TAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,619, dated May 10, 1898.
Application filed February 7,1898. Serial No. 669,463. Term of patent '7 years.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES FRANKLIN Mo- FADDEN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Sheet-Metal Tags, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a design for a sheet metal tag, intended to be stamped or otherwise provided with lettering of any desired character, to be applied to packages or bales of goods, such for instance, as cotton.
Referring to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 represents in top plan view and Figure 2 in longitudinal cross section, a sheet metal tag embodying my design, it will be observed that the leading or characteristic feature or unitary design of said tag resides in a head, and a band continuous of the same, of the following description: The head designated A, is of oval outline, and is formed with a narrow central slot, a, having rounded ends, and the major axis of which is coincident with that of the head.
The band, designated B, which consists of a strap of indeterminate length and of breadth slightly less than the length of the slot or, merges, so to speak, into the head at the outer edge of the latter, the structure as a whole being so fashioned or arranged that the axis of the band is perpendicular to that of the head.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent A design for a tag, substantially as herein shown and described. I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have hereunto signed my name this 4th day of February, A. D. 1898.
JAMES FRANKLIN MQFADDEN.
In presence of- A. P. RUTHERFORD, CHAs. W. BONNER.
