To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN B. PAYNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lexington, in the county of Fayette and State of Kentucky, have invented or produced a new and original Design for Badges, of which the following is a specification.
This design has for its object to provide a novel and ornamental badge which presents a characteristic and handsome appearance to the eye, and the leading feature thereof con' sists in a. circular badge having on its face a representation of a hand printing press, a printers com posingstick, and a printers type case.
The invention is illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure l is a face view of the badge; and Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the same.
In the drawings the numeral 1 indicates the badge which is circular or in the form of a disk and bears on its face a representation of the section of a terrestrial globe, as at 2. Above the representation of the section of the terrestrial globe is arranged the pictorial representation of a hand printing-press, as at 3, and at one side of the same is represented a hand, as at 4, grasping a printers composing-stick, as at 5, while at the opposite side of the press is placed a stand, as at 6, supporting a printers type-case, as at 7, with a compositor standing in front of the case and represented as composing type. Above the representation of the hand printing-press are arranged a shooting-stick 8 and a mallet 9. The section of the terrestrial globe is divided into spaces by curved crossing 1ines,and some of the spaces are adapted to receive an inscription.
