DESIGN FOR THE ORNAMENTATION OF FLAGS, BANNERS, 80c.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,097, dated August 12, 1890.

Application filed March 6, 1890. Serial No. 342,928- Term of patent 7 years.

To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM It. WAsII BURN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockland, in the county of Plymouth and Stateol lllussaehnset ts,have invented and produced a new and original Design for Ornamentation of Flags and Banners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.

The leading feature of my design consists in the arrangement of stars to represent the letters U S, and these stars are equal in numher to the States in the United States of America. These stars have numerous points and are represented in outlines, and the points are so arranged that heavy parts of the letter shall be represented by two rows of stars, and that in similar positions the points of the stars will all have the like direction,

as illustrated in the vertical lines of stars in the letter U in the accompanying illustration.

I am aware that letters composed of an assemblage of crosses are not new, and that stars have also been variously employed in ornamentation, and I do not claim such de- Vices.

The drawing accompanying this specification shows an arrangement of stars such as is above described. The ornament is intended to be painted or embroidered upon flags ol: banners.

What I claim is A design for the ornamentation of Bags and banners, comprising the stars arranged as set forth.
