WlT-NESSES: INVENTOR:

ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN S. \VIIITEHEAD, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A BADGE.
C C ON forming part of Design No. 23,832, dated December 4, 1894.
Application filed June 30,1894- Sorial 210.516.2616. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN S. Walru- HEAD,a citizen of the United States, residing at Newarkfln the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Badges, of which the following isafull, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and letters of reference marked thereon, which forms part of this specification.
In the drawing, the figure presented illustrates a front view of the badge embodying the leading features of my new design.
The design is distinguished by its general elfect, the drawing being mainly relied upon to manifest the general features of the design, and the following general description being given for the purpose of the specification.
The design is composed of four distinct elements to insure the beauty of the badge. These consist, first, of a badge ribbon having a folded or looped end-portion; secondly, the arrangement in connection with said end-portion, of a circular medallion having a headlike ring-shaped edge or frame, the arrangement on said ribbon of a pair of crossed flags, and lastly, at the top of the ribbon, a headpiece having a marginal configuration, whereby the beauty of the badge is greatly enhanced. These are the leading features of my new design, and the general effect is therefore due to these features.
Referring to the drawing, a is the ribbon portion of the badge, having the straight edges or sides a. and the rounded points a forming the folded or looped end-portion a. of
the ribbon. Connected with said end-portion to greatly enhance the beauty and general effect of the badge, is the medallion b, of the shape of a cirolein outline and has arranged around the same, in raised ornamentation, a bead-like ring I) forming a frame for the medallion. The ribbon a is provided on its face with an arrangement of crossed flags c, which add materially to the beauty of the badge, while at the top of the ribbon is a head-piece or bar (Z, having a marginal configuration, as shown. The two longest sides of said bar are outwardly arched, as at d and (Z and from each arched portion (1 extend the outwardly and inwardly curved parts (i while the shorter and end edges of the head-piece or bar are curved inwardly, as at d. Said ribbon a, as well as the medallion b, and the ornamental head-piece (1, may be provided with any suitable inscription or emblem.
The design consists of the general outline and configuration of the several parts of the design, and the arrangement of a pair of crossed flags on the face of the ribbon, to insure the general effect and beauty thereof.
What I claim is- The design for a badge, as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand this 27th day of June, 1894.
