DESIGN FOR A BADGE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,858, dated December 1 1, 1894. Application filed June 7 1894. Serial No. 513.331- Term ofpatent 7 years.

To all whom it may concern.-

Ile it known that I, BENJAMIN S. WHITE- HEAD, a citizen of Newark, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and original Design for Badges, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.

The drawing herewith accompanying represents a front view of the badge embodying the leading features of my new design.

The design is distinguished by its general effect, the drawing being mainly relied upon to manifest the general features, and the following description being, given for the purpose of this specification.

The design is composed of several distinct elements as shown in the drawing, to insure the beauty of the badge. These elements consist of a badge ribbon having a folded or looped end portion, a circular medallion in connection with said end portion, said medallion having a bead-like and ringshaped edge or frame, and a head-piece at the top of the ribbon, having a marginal configuration. The beauty and effect of the design are therefore due to these features.

Referring to said views, a is the ribbon portion of the badge,--ha.ving the straight edges or sides a, and the rounded points a forming the folded or looped end portion a of the ribbon. Connected with said end portion to greatly enhance the beauty of the badge, is the medallion b, of the shape of a circle in outline and has arranged around the same, in raised ornamentation, a bead-like ring b forming a frame for the medallion. At the top of the ribbon is a head-piece or bar 0 having the marginal configuration shown. The two longest sides of said bar are outwardly arched, as at c and c and from each arched portion 0 extend the outwardly and inwardly curved parts 0 while the shorter and end edges of the head-piece or bar are curved inwardly, as at c.

The ribbon at, as well as the medallion b and the ornamental head-piece 0, may be provided with any suitable inscription or emblem.

The essential feature of my novel design consists of the general outline and configuration of the several parts of the design to insure the general effect and beauty thereof.

What I claim is- The design for a badge, substantially as described and set forth.
