INVENTOR' CHESTER B. HQAQ 6 4?" c? WITNESSES:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
(IIESTER R. ITOAG, OF NElVARK, NIUY JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A BADGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,128, dated June 1, 1897'.
Application filed April 1 1897. Serial No- 630,313. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, CHnsrER R. HOAG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and original Design for Badges, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and letters of reference thereon, which form part of this specification.
In said drawings,Figure 1 represents a front View of the badge embodying the leading features of my new design, and Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal vertical section of the same.
The design is distinguished by its general effect, the drawings being merely relied upon to manifest the general features and the following description being given for the purpose of this specification.
The design is composed of several distinct elements, all of which are shown in the drawings, to insure the beauty of the badge. These elements consist of a badge-ribbon of any desired color, having a folded or looped end portion, an ornamental medallion connected with said end portion of the ribbon, and a headpiece or bar at the top of the ribbon, having a marginal configuration, as well as surface ornamentation. The beauty and effect of this design are therefore due to these features.
Referring to said views, Z) is the ribbon portion of the badge, having the folded or looped portion 1). Connected with said folded or looped portion of the ribbon b, to greatly enhance the beauty of the badge, is the ornamental medallion a. Said medallion is of a circular disk shape, provided at the top with a ring a for attaching it to the ribbon Z). The annular edge of said medallion is bounded by an ornamental bead c The central portion of the medallion is formed with a raised surface of, which itself is bounded by an annular edge a. Said raised surface is also ornamented with meridian lines (Wand lines of latitude a, dividing the curved surface bounded by the annular edge a into Zones or belts, the whole beinga representation of the earth. In the center of said representation of the earth is the representation of a beehive c placed upon a square base a which is illustrated in perspective. At the bottom. of said annular edge a and between the said edge and the ornamental bead o is the representation of a chain c, having an arrangement of olive branches 0 extending from the ends of said chain. Across the several ornamented portions of the medallion (a is a band d, formed with ornamental panels. At the top of the ribbon is a head-piece or bare, having the marginal configu ration and surface ornamentation shown. The two longest sides 6' and c are slightly curved, the side 6 being formed with straight portions 6 and downwardly-extending curves c", the ends of said curves 6 and the curved parts of the side 6 being connected by the graceful curves c". The face of said bar is enhanced by an ornamental band 6 which extends along the entire edge of the bar and corresponds to its marginal configuration. Said band e being slightly raised forms a slight central depression 6 in the bar, which can be likewise suitably ornamented. Centrally arranged across the face of the bar and in a slightly-inclined position is the ensign and chosen symbol of Christianity, which consists in the arrangement of an ornamental cross fand ornamental crown f, these parts all being arranged substantially as and for the purposes set forth. The ribbon b may be provided with any suitable inscription, design, or emblem.
The essential features of my novel design consist in the general arrangement of the ribbon, medallion, and head-piece and in the outline, configuration, and surface ornamentation of the several parts comprising a complete design for a badge to insure the general effect and beauty thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- The design for a badge, substantially as herein described and set forth.
In testimony that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand this 30th day of March, 1897.
CHESTER R. IIOAG.
