Description

vvmwooaa W. G. STALLMAN.
BOTTLE STOPPER.
APPLICATION FILED Amz. 1914.
Patented Sept. 19, 1916.
nuamtoz W'G' SZQZZmQ'n UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM G. STALLMAN, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO VAHAN H. .ABKARIAN COMPANY, INC., OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, A CORPORA- TION OF NEW YORK.
BOTTLE-STOPPER.
Application filed April 2, 1914.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM G. STALL- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle- Stoppers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in bottle stoppers, and has for its principal object to provide a bottle stopper which may be easily and quickly removed from the neck of the milk bottle.
Another object of the invention is to provide an attachment for the ordinary type of disk bottle stopper upon which an advertisement of any suitable type may be printed and which will materially assist in the removal of the stopper from its position in the bottle neck.
IVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a bottle showing the stopper as it would appear when in position therein, Fig. 2 is a top plan view of a bottle stopper constructed in accordance with this invention, and, Fig. 3 is a detail view of the attachment which is used in conjunction with the bottle stopper.
Referring now to the drawings by characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates a milk bottle of the ordinary type which is provided with the usual neck 2 having the usual shoulder 3 formed therein, upon which the disk forming the stopper is adapted to rest. This disk which is designated by the numeral 4 is provided with the slot 5 through which the extension 6 of the attachment, designated generally by the numeral 7, is adapted to extend. enlarged portion 8 is formed on the extension, and is adapted to form the shoulders 9 which abut the under side of the disk 4 to materially assist in removing the stopper from its position in the bottle neck.
Specification of Letters Patent.
A suitable- Patented Sept. 19, 1916.
Serial No. 829,071.
It will be evident from the foregoing that 1n use, the extension 6 is passed through the slot 5 so that the shoulders 9 abut the under side of the disk at and the portion 8 is then bent as illustrated in Fig. 1 and glued or otherwise secured'to the stopper. In this position it will be evident that the extension 6 will project upwardly through the slot in the bottle neck and the same may be bent down in the position illustrated in Fig. l where it will remain until it is desired to remove the stopper from its position whereupon the extension is raised to the vertical position, and upon exerting pull thereon it will be evident that the bottle stopper will be withdrawn from its position in the bottle neck and may be entirely removed therefrom.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the combination and arrangement of parts as will fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A bottle stopper of the character described comprising a circular body of cardboard, said body being provided near its periphery with a slot, a puller comprising a flat elongated member, an enlargement formed at one end of said member forming shoulders on opposite sides of said member, the end of said puller inserted through the slot in the circular disk and bent back upon itself to lie upon the upper face of the disk, the shoulders preventing same from being withdrawn from the slot without removing the disk, the enlarged portion being secured to the under face of the disk to further assist in preventing the same from becoming accidentally removed, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM G. STALLMAN.
