j UNITED STATES MAX AMS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PATENT OFFICE.
COVER FOR MUSTARD-BOTTLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,740, dated June 20, 1882.
Application filed May 24, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX AMS, of the city of New York, county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cover for Mustard-Bottles, of which the following specification is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to an improved cover for mustard-bottles which may be readily attached and removed, and by which a spoon may be held in the bottle, removable when the cover is detached.
The invention consists in a sheet-metal cover having a flange and lugs in one piece with said flange, to engage beneath the neck of a mustard-bottle also, in providing said cover with a slot extending partly through its top plate and through its flange, all as hereinafter more fully set out.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my improved cover for mustard-bottles. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section of a bottle provided with the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
The letter A represents my improved cover. B is the mustard-bottle upon which it is to he used.. The cover A is made of one piece of sheet metal, and is composed of the top plate, a, and flange b. The flange b is provided at its edge with three (more or less) lugs, c, in one piece therewith. A slot for the insertion of a spoon, D,e-Xtends partly through the top plate, a, and also entirely through the flange b, as shown. the spoon D is introduced and the cover put in place, the lugs 0 being bent under the neck 0 of the bottle. In this way both the cover and spoon are locked in place.
If the mustard is to be used, the lugs are straightened, and the cover and spoon may be removed.
I claim as my invention-- '1. The sheet-metal cover A for a mustardbottle, having flange b and lugs c in one piece therewith, to engage beneath the neck of a mustard-bottle, substantially as specified.
2. The flanged sheet-metal cover A, having lugs c and a slot extending partly through its top plate and entirely through its flange, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
' MAX AMS.
