Description

No. 789,279. PATENTED MAY 9, 1905. W. HOLINER.
BOTTLE SEAL. APPLICATION FILED NOV. 22, 1904.
UNITED STATES Patented May 9, 1905.
PATENT OEEIcE.
WILLIAM HOLINER, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD TO CHARLES A. STIX, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
BOTTLE-SEAL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 789,279, dated May 9, 1905. Application filed November 22, 1904a Serial No. 233,904-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HOLINER, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, and a resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Seals, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in bottle-seals; and it consists of the novel features herein shown, described, and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical central section of a bottle-"neck with my improved seal, the body of the bottle being broken away to economize space and the view being taken on the line 1 1 of Fig. 2 and looking in the direction indicated by the arrow. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1 and looking in the direction indicated by the arrow. Fig. 3 is a perspective of one member of the seal-collar. Fig. 4 is a perspective of the other member of the seal-collar. Fig. 5 is an enlarged horizontal section showing the connection between the two members of the seal-collar.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the bottle-neck 6 may be of the shape usually found inWine-bottles and the like or anysuitable shape having the interior opening or passage 7 to receive the cork or stopper 8, and an annular external groove 9 is formed, preferably, close to the upper end of the neck. The external seal 10, of tin-foil or suitable material in the form of a cap, is applied to the neck 6, so as to cover the stopper 8, and then the seal-collar is applied. The seal-collar comprises two members 11 and 12, there being a recess 13 in each end of the inner face of the member 12, there being beveled teeth 14 centrally located in the recesses 13 and there being perforated ears 15 extending from the ends of the member 11 into the recesses 13, so that the teeth 14 will snap into the perforations 16 of said ears. The sealcollar thus constructed is placed in position against the seal 10 and pressed into the groove 9 and snapped together, thereby pressing the material of the seal 10 into the groove and securely fastening the seal 10 to the bottle. The seal-collar is constructed to exactly fill the groove 9, together with the material of the seal 10, so that when the seal is applied the outer surface of the seal-collar is level with the outer surface of the visible parts of the seal 10.
It is obvious that the seal 10 cannot be removed, and in order to remove the contents of the bottle the seal 10 must be broken and the stopper 8 removed.
I claim 1. The combination with a bottle having an external groove and a seal covering the groove, of a seal-collar adapted to press the seal into the groove and snap together so that it cannot be removed.
.2. The combination with a bottle having an external groove and a seal covering the groove, of a seal-collar formed in two pieces adapted to press the seal into the groove and snap together, so that it cannot be removed.
3. The combination with a bottle having an external groove and a seal covering the groove, of a seal-collar; said seal-collar comprising two members having perforations and teeth adapted to snap together.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM HOLINER. Witnesses ALFRED A. From, M. SoHULzE.
