Description

No- 807,005. PATENTED DEC. 12, 1905. JJB. WILDMAN & L. G. TREHERNE.
BOTTLE STOPPER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 29, 1905.
ATTORNEYS "UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN B. WILDMAN AND LEONARD O. TREHERNE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BOTTLE-STOPPEFI.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 1905.
Application filed June 29, 1905- Serial No. 267,536.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN B. WILDnAN and LEONARD (J. TREHERNE, citizens of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to bottle-stoppers; and the object thereof'is to provide an improved device of this class which is designed particularly for use in connection with perfumery-bottles and other bottles from which it is desired to discharge small quantities of the contents-as, for instance, medicine-bottles and the likeand with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of our improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, in which Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of a bottle-stopper or closure device made according to our invention; Fig. 2, a transverse section thereof on the line 2 2.
In the practice of our invention we provide a bottle-stopper or closure device comprising a plug member a, having a central longitudinal bore w in the bottom portion of which, in the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, is secured a thimble-shaped member 6, the closed end of which is directed upwardly and provided with a small perforation b and the upper end of the bore a is closed by a detachable plug c, provided in the form of construction shown with a flange or rim above which is a knob or head 0 which forms a handle for the manipulation of the plug 0.
The plug 0, the flange or rim 0 and knob or head 0 are formed integrally and preferably composed of glass, porcelain, or similar material, and in practice the stopper, comprising the plug member a, with the parts 6 and c, is inserted into the neck of the bottle in the manner of an ordinary cork or similar device, and the flange or rim 0 of the plug 0 when employed is preferably made wide enough to cover the top end portion of the neck of the bottle. The plug membera is also preferably composed of cork, but may be composed of any desired material, and when a bottle is closed in this manner the plug 0 may be removed by hand whenever necessary by grasping the knob or head 0 and the contents of the bottle may be shaken out through the port or passage 6 said port or passage being made of such dimensions as to permit the discharge of the contents of the bottle in small quantities or in drops.
A stopper made in this manner is particularly adapted for use in connection with perfumery-bottles or in connection with medicinebottles, but may be used wherever devices of this kind are required, and it will be apparent that other forms of vessels, such as jars, jugs, and the like, may be closed by means of our improved stopper whenever desired.
By making the part 6 thimble shape, as shown in Fig. 1, and inserting the closed end thereof into the part a the discharge of liquid or liquids from the bottle is facilitated, said liquid or liquids first entering the thimbleshaped part b and being directed thereby through the opening 6 in the end thereof.
Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A closure device for bottles and similar vessels, comprising a plug member having a central longitudinal bore, a supplemental plug member secured in the bottom of said bore, said supplemental plug member being thimble-shaped in form and the closed end thereof being perforated and inserted into said bore, and a detachable plug member adapted to close the top of said bore and provided with a handle, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our invention We have signed our names, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 26th day of June, 1905.
