No. 818,798. PATENTED APR. 24, 1906. E. TAYLOR.
BOTTLE CLOSURE.
APPLIOATION FILED NOV.7, 1905.
UNITED PATENT OFFICE.
EDIVARD TAYLOR, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.
' BOTTLE-CLOSURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 24, 1906.
Application 51 November '7, 1905. Serial No. 286,179.
o all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rock ford in the county of \Vinnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Closures, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a bottleclosure in which the parts are as nearly sanitary as possible.
This invention consists of the bottle made of glass having an upwardly-extending cupshaped receptacle surrounding the upper portion of the neck of the bottle and a cover hav ing a hinge connection with that portion of the neck of the bottle located within the receptacle.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a bottle containing my improvements. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section. Fig. 3 is an isometrical representation of the cap with the hingesection.
The bottle 1 represented in the drawings is of the type used at soda-fountains in dispensing drinks of various kindsthat is, so far as relates to the main portion. The neck 2 is tapering, being smaller at its upper end. From the neck portion of the bottle near its upper end projects a cup-shaped receptacle 3, formed integral with the neck. The upper edge of this receptacle is formed with an annular recess 1. Around the upper end of the neck of the bottle is attached a cap 5 and held in place by cement, plaster, or other means. This cap has a central opening 6 of the same size as the discharge-opening of the neck of the bottle. A section 7 of the cap is turned outward and rolled to form one section S of a hinge. A cover 9 has its open edge fitted to and located in the circular recess 1 From the inner surface of the cover projects a section 10 of a hinge, which is connected to the hinge-section 8 by the pin 11. From the l l l l l l l l r cover 9 extends a tailpiece 12 and of considerable length. That portion of the neck of the bottle located within the receptacle 3 has a dripopening 13.
In use the neck of the bottle is grasped by the hand, which will at the same moment press the tailpiece against the neck of the bottle and move the cover on its hinge connection into the position shown at Fig. 1. The drippings will enter the receptacle and pass through the opening 13 into the bottle proper.
I claim as my invention 1. A bottle provided with a receptacle formed around the upper portion of its neck, and a cover having a hinge connection with the neck above the receptacle.
2. A bottle provided with a receptacle formed around the upper portion of its neck, a band secured to the neck above the receptacle, and a cover having a hinge connection with the band.
3. A bottle provided with a receptacle formed around the upper portion of its neck, a cap secured to the neck above the receptacle, and a cover having a hinge connection with the cap.
1. A bottle provided with a receptacle formed around the upper portion of its neck, the upper portion of the receptacle formed with an annular recess, and a cover having a hinge connection with the neck.
5. A bottle provided with a receptacle formed around the upper portion of its neck, a band secured to the neck above thereceptacle, a portion of the band turned outward forming a section of a hinge joint, and a cover having a hinge connection with the hinge-section.
