PATENT" OFFICE.
CLOSING DEVICE FOR POWDER-CONTAINERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 769,331, dated September 6, 1904,
- Application filed March A, 1904. Serial No.196,580. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEwIs A. ALLEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Passaic, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Closing Device for Powder-Containers, of which the following is a specification.
Myinvention relates to improvements in powder-containers; and the object of my invention is to provide a cheap and efiective means for closing the container.
My invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended'claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device. Fig. 2 is a sectional view upon the line X X in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the stopper-bearing member.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
A is the upper part of a powder-container, which tapers from the body portion to the neck E- in the usual form. In the side of the neck E, I provide an aperture G, which aperture is preferably elongated to more evenly distribute the powder. I also provide upon the neck E a projecting guide F, which is preferably pressed or stamped out of the neck E. 1 also provide a sleeve member B, formed of spring metal, to fit closely upon the neck E. This sleeve member .B is preferably provided with an interior guide-groove D to fit upon the projecting guide F. It is formed at or near one end of the sleeve member B and extends toward the center of the sleeve member B a distance suiiicient to permit the sleeve member B to be turned until the aperture G is open. Near the opposite end of the sleeve member B, I provide a stopper C to closely fit into the aperture G. This stopper 0 ispreferably pressed or stamped out of the metal of the sleeve member B and is provided with beveled edges to more closely fit into the aperture G and effectually close it.
The parts of my device are assembled by forcing-the spring-sleeve member B over the neck E, so that the projection F in the neck E will fit into the groove D in the sleeve member B, which is then moved about the neck until the stopper. 0 fits into the aperture G, when the container 'will be securelyuntil the stopper C is fully withdrawn from the opening G.
While I have shown my improved device upon the neck of the-container, it will be obvious that it will be equally efiective upon any part of the container.
Having thus described my invention, what I. claim is v In a device of the character described, the
combination with a container, of a neck por-.
tion having an elongated discharge-opening therein, an Integral pro ecting guide member on the neck, a spring-sleeve member provided with a longitudinal groove on its inner surface, near one end thereof, adapted to receive said guide member to permit the turning of the sleeve to open the discharge-opening, and
an integral stopper member formed in said sleeve provided with beveled edges and adapted to fit Within the discharge-opening to close the same, substantially as set forth.
Dated March 1, 1904:.
