LASZLO REIDER, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
BOTTLE-CLOSURE Application filed December 18, 1912.
Specification of Letters Patent.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LASZLO Rnmnn, a sub ject of the King of Hungary, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Closures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to bottle closures, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a closure for bottles embodying a screen that serves functionally as a cage and sieve, as a cage supporting a portion of the closure and as a sieve straining liquid placed in or removed from the bottle pro vided with the closure.
Another object of this invention is to provide a closure for a bottle that can be opened without resorting to the use of a corkscrew or other instrument, and at the same time wired or sealed to provide a permanent closure.
A further object of this invention is to accomplish'the above results by a mechanical construction that is simple, durable and applicable to various kinds of receptacles.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construc tion, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a bottle closure showing the same in a closed and sealed position, Fig. 2 is a similar view illustrating a closure in an open position, Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line III-ITI of Fig. 1, Fig. 4 is a similar view taken on the line IV--IV of Fig. 2, and Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a detached screw.
Describing my invention in detail with reference to the drawing, wherein like numerals denote corresponding parts through: out, 1 denotes a bottle neck and arranged in said bottle neck is a cage 2 made of in terwoven wire constituting a foraminous body. Extending into the cage 2 in proximity to the lower end thereof is a stopper 3 having a peripheral flange i that is secured to the neck of the bottle to hold the stopper and the cage 2 therein. These two elements are permanent and cannot be re moved without disfiguring the bottle neck. The bottle neck 3 is provided with a central longitudinal bore 5 having the walls thereof screw threaded and the lower end of the bore terminates in a frusto-conical shaped seat 6.
7 denotes a frusto-conical shaped plug loosely mounted in the cage 2 and said plug has a threaded opening 8 alining with the bore 5. The plug is covered by a piece of rubber 9 or other resilient material and this piece of rubber insures a nonleaka-ble c011- nection with the plug 7 in engagement with the seat 6.
1O denotes a screw having a head 11 provided with a peripheral flange 12. The head 11 has a transverse opening 13 the purpose of which will presently appear. The screw 10 can be screwed into the bore 5 and the opening 8 to elevate the plug 7 and close the stopper 3.
1e denotes a piece of wire or seal extending through the opening 13 and engaging the bottle neck 1, said piece of wire or seal locking the head of the screw relatively to the bottle neck whereby the screw cannot be removed.
To prevent the plug 7 from rotating while being elevated, the bottom of the plug is provided with depending pins 15 that extend through the cage, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
The closure can be made of various kinds of material and the invention is susceptible to such changes as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What T claim is In a bottle closure, the combination with a bottle neck, of a cage located within the bottle neck and provided with a foraminous bottom, a stopper mounted in said bottle neck and having its inner end spaced from the bottom of the cage, said stopper provided with a cent-rally disposed threaded bore terminating in a centrally disposed frusto-conical seat, the inner end of the bore opening into the smaller end of said seat, a frusto-conical plug loosely supported by the cage and having a threaded opening and further provided with depending guide pins permanently projecting through said hottom, a headed threaded member engaging In testimony whereof, I afiix my signawith the threads of the stopper and plug ture in the presence of two Witnesses.
for movin the pltw to en a e the seat said head having 2 transer se openingZ LASZLO REIDER' means extending through said opening and Vitnesses: engaging the bottle neck for securing said ERNEST \VEIss, member to the bottle neck. JOHN BITTER SCHILLER.
