Description
f UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
. JOHN S. HUFFMAN, 'or Rockroan, ILLINOIS.
` BOTTLE-STOPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
:atenteol March 13, 1906.
Application filed July 29,1905. Serial No. 271,867.
T0 a/ZZ wiz/omi it may concern."
Be it known that I, JOHN S. HUFFMAN, a citizen of the United States of-America, re-
siding at Rockford, in the county of Winne' bago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle- Stoppers; and I do hereby vdeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had.
to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which formy f a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a cent-ral vertical section of a bottle provided with my improvements. Fig.
2 is a top plan view of the same complete. Fig. 3 is an isometrical detail view of the bottle-closure.. i A
A is a bottle having a transverselyenlarged circular recess A! in the neck A2 thereof, terminating at its lower end in a circular closure-seat A3 and at its upper, end in a`spiral convolution At.
B is a circular closure fitted to the seat A3'in the neck A2 of the bottle to hermetically seal V the same.
C is 'a spiral spring connected by its `lower end and preferably through the metallic cap C tothe closure B and terminating at its u per end in a ring C2, wherebyto turn t e same under the convolution A4 at the upper end of the 'circular recess A in the neck A2 of the bottle, the spiral Spring being includible and compressible between such closure and convolution.
The closure may be'removed from the bot` tle by rotating it from left to right by means p erate cost.
` Obviously the above-described bottle could not be .hermetically sealed by any closure eX'- cept one substantially like the one described 1n connection therewith herein.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by 'Let ters Patent, isy l. In a bottle-stopper, incombination, a bottle having a transversely-enlarged circular recess, in the neck thereof, terminating, at its lower end, in a circular closure-seat and,
at its upper end, Vin a spiral convolution, a ciri cular c osure fittedl tothe seat in the neck of the-bottle,- to hermetically seal the same, and
s' spiral sring includible and compressiblev between t e closure and convolution at the upper end of the transversely-enlarged circular recess in the neck of the bottle, substan tially as described.
2.' In a bottle-Stopper, in combination, a bottle having a transversely-enlarged circular recess, in the neck thereof, terminating, at its lower end, in a circular closure-seat and, at
f its upper end, in a spiral convolution, a circu-A lar c osure fitted to the seat in the lneck of the bottle, to hermetically seal the same, and a spiral spring connected, by its lower end, to t e closureand terminating, at its upper end,
in a ring, whereby to turn the same under the convolution at the upper end of the transverselyenlarged circular recess in the neck of the bottle, to secure the closure upon 'its seat, substantially as described,
3. In a bottleTstopper, in combination, a bottle having a circular recess A in the neck thereof, terminating, at its lower end, in a circular closure-seat A3 and, at its upper end,
in a spiral convolution A4, a closure fitted to the seat A3, anda spiral spring C connected, by its lower end, to the closure B and terminating, at its upper end, in means whereby to turn th(J same, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
, JOHN S. I-IUFFMAN. Witnesses:
