Be it known that we, FRANK II. BONNETTE and JAMES M. BOREN, citizensof the United States of America, residing at New Brighton, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gurgless Jugs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

Our invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in gurgless jugs.

The object of our invention is to provide a jug of this characterfrom which the contents can be easily removed.

A further object of our invention is to provide a jug of this character with means to prevent the gurgling sound of the liquid as it is being discharged therefrom.

A still further object of our invention is to provide a jug of this character by which the contents can be freely discharged therefrom when held at any angle or in an inverted position.

Astill further object of our invention is to prevent the accumulation of dust in the air or vent passage.

Astill further object of our invention is to overcome the defects heretofore existing in a jug of this character, which owing to the vent for the air-passage being arranged in the handle would receive dust or dirt and the same necessarily would fall into the contents of the jug and in most cases clog the air or vent passage. lVe overcome the foregoing defects by putting the vent for the air-passage in the neck of the bottle and by using a stopperhaving an enlarged head to close the tap.

Our invention further consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout both views thereof, and in which- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of our improved gurgless jug, part of the body portion being broken away, showing the position of the vent or air-passage. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof, showing in dotted lines the vent or air-passage and in full lines the tap therefor formed in the neck. I

Referring to the drawings by reference-numerals, 1 indicates the body portion of the 3' ug, having a neck portion 2 formed integral there with.

3 indicates the handle, which is formed hi tegral at one end with the side of the jug, as shown, and at the opposite end with the upper part of the neck portion.

The neck portion is adapted to receive the stopper 4, having an enlarged head 5, which is adapted to cover completely the upper edge of the neck portion.

The handle 3 is provided with an air-pas- I sage 6, which extends in a vertical and horizontal mannerand is adapted at its upper end to register with the vent 7, arranged in the neck portion, which opens into the atmosphere at the top thereof and is arranged between the periphery and the inner face of the neck. It will be observed that the vent 7 does not extend entirely through the neck of the jug. It will be readily seen by this arrangement of the air-passage and the vent therefor that the defects heretofore existing in a jug of this character can be readily overcome. Owing to the stopper having the enlarged head, the dust or dirt will be prevented from entering the vent or air-passage, thereby closing the same and preventing the free discharge of the liquid from the bodyportion of the jug.

It will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction with out departing from the general spirit of our,

invention.

Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A jug provided with a neck portion having its opening of the same relative diameter throughout, a handle formed integrally at one end with the periphery of the neck portion and having its upper face at its junction with the neck registering with the top thereof, and its opposite end formed integrally with the body portion of the jug, said handle provided with an air-passage extending entirely therethrough, said air-passage having a portion thereof extending vertically from its opening into the body portion and a portion thereof its joint with the periphery of the neck, in combination with a stopper provided with an enlarged head which when in position will close the vent, substantially as described.
