Description

UNITED STATES CHARLES ENGLERT, OF. ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 14, 1908.
Application filed October 23, 1907. Serial No. 398,843.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLEs ENGLERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at 1067 St. Paul street, Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of Which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to non-refillable bottles and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a simple and efficient device for preventing the refilling of bottles after the contents have been used in the first instance.
Another object of the invention is to provide a two part valve casing and a sliding valve mounted in the casing, said valve being operable by the force of liquid in the bottle, when the latter is tilted to a position to pour out its contents.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section taken through the upper portion of a bottle neck and through the valve casing secured therein. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the bottle neck inverted and the manner in which the liquid will flow through the valve casing and out through the mouth of the bottle. Fig. 3 is a side elevation and partial section of the bafile member of the valve casing. Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the same. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the valve seat member of the.device. Fig. 6 is a top plan view of the same.- Fig. 7 is a side elevation of the valve. Fig. 8 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 9 is a vertical section through the valve and its stem. section of the valve casing, the valve and the bafile.
Referring to the drawing for a more specific description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a bottle neck formed upon a bottle of any suitable size or design. Inserted in the bottle neck is a valve casing comprising a valve seat member 2 and a bafile member 3. The valve seat member 2 consists of a bottom 4 provided with an opening 5 therein forming a valve seat and a flange surrounding the bottom and extend- Fig. 10 is a side elevation and partial ing at right angles thereto. The baflie member 3' is provided with an annular flange 6 which fits over the flange of the valve seat and a shoulder 7 a ainst which the upper edge of said flange a uts. The baflle is provided with a reduced upper end 8 having an imperforate top 9 while the side walls of the reduced portion is provided with a series of outlet openings 10.
Formed on or secured to the inner'wall of the imperforate top 9 is a valve stem guide 11, said guide comprising a tube open at its lower end. A valve comprising a stem 12 mounted to slide in the guide 11 is provided with a concavo-conveX valve head 13 adapted to normally rest upon and close the valve seat 5. When the bottle is canted or tipped to the position shown in Fig. 2, the valve stem 12 slides in the guide 11 to permit the li uid to pass through the openings 5 into the v lve casing and out through the outlet opening 10 and out through the mouth of the bottle. An ordinary cork or stopper may be employed to close the bottle mouth.
Fromthe foregoing it will be obvious that a device made in accordance with my invention is simple in construction, can be made and inserted in any size bottle neck and will operate efliciently to prevent the refilling of bottles after the original contents have been use .Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
Anon-refillable bottle comprising a valve seat consisting of a bottom, an annular flange surrounding said bottom, the latter being provided with a beveled valve seat, a baflle comprising a flange surrounding the flange of the valve seat, said baflle having a reduced portion provided with a series of outlet openings, a valve stem guide formed within said bai'fle, a valve comprising a stem to fit within said guide, and a concavo-conveX head to close the valve seat, said valve seat and baflie being disposed within a bottle neck.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES ENGLERT. Witnesses:
