Description

W. MURRAY. JAR COVER REMOVING DEVICE. uruouxon rnmn mm: 25, 1910.
72,774. Patented Oct. 11, 1910.
IINITE WILLIAM MURRAY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
JAR-COVER-REMOVING DEVICE.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM MURRAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jar-Cover-Removing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in jar cover removing devices, the object of the invention being to provide a device which is especially adapted for removing the covers or caps on jars, preserving glasses or other devices upon which the cap or cover is held in place by friction only.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which can be manufactured and sold at an extremely low cost, which is extremely simple in construction, strong and durable in use.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a view in side elevation illustrating the application of my improvements, Fig. 2, is a bottom plan view of the device, and Fig. 3, is an end view thereof.
1, represents an ordinary jelly glass, 2 the cap or cover thereon, and 3 my improved device.
My improved device may be made of various materials, but preferably of metal, and its lower edge is rounded as indicated at 4, and provided with a plurality of notches 5 adapted to engage over the edge of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 25, 1910.
Patented Oct. 11, 1910. Serial No. 568,771.
cover, and prevent slipping of the device when in operation.
011 one end of the device 3, two hooks are provided, and a single hook 7 is pro vided at the other end of the device. These hooks are adapted to engage under the edge of a cap or cover 2. In operation, whenever possible, the double hooks 6 are employed to engage under the cover and when pressure is applied 011 the end of the glass, projecting over the glass, the device will be fulcrumed on the edge of the cap or cover, the notches preventing any slipping movement so that the hook (i will pry the cap or cover 2 off the glass.
In a great many instances, particularly where glasses, jars, cans, and other devices are provided with beads limiting the downward movement of the cap or cover, it is necessary to use the single hook 7 as it is diflicult to get both of the hooks 6 under the cap or cover.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A device of the character described, comprising a body portion having a rounded or curved lower face, notches in said rounded or curved lower face, two books at one end of said device, and a single hook at the other end, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
VILLIAM MURRAY.
