BOTTLE CAP 0R STOPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
vPatented June 13, 1916.
Application led October 15, 1915. Serial No. 56,036.
To all whom t may concern citizen of the United States, residing at Bay Shore, in the county ofSufolk and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Caps or Stoppers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and lexact description of the i vention, such as wlll enable others skilled 1n the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to improvements in bottle caps or Stoppers.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of bottle caps and Stoppers and to provide a simple, practical, and comparatively inexpensive bottlecap or stopper of the crown seal type capable'of being readily applied to and removed from the neck of a bottle andof reuse as long as desired and adapted also to have the sealing cork or. disk readily replaced when necessary.
With these and other objects in'view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter f ully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereto appended, it -being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or `sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a reverse plan view of a stopper or bottle cap constructed in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, Fig. `3 is a detailview showing the cam lever in its unlockedposition, Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view o the inner portion of the cam lever, Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view ofthe device.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawings.
I n the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, 1 designates a metallic cap constructed of suitable sheet metal and provided at its annular flange or wall 2 with resilient depending arms 3 having terminal sleeves 4 for the reception of a binding wire 5 adapted to be drawn around the neck of a bottle by a locking cam lever 6. The cap 1 is equipped with the usual sealing disk or member 7 of cork or other suitable mate- .rial and the flange or wall 2 is provided between t-he arms 3 with rounded projecting portions or lugs 8 which are adapted to yieldablyembrace the sealing disk or cork at the periphery thereof whereby the sealing disk or cork is securely retained in the cap and held against accidental 'displacement. i The binding wire which is of circular form is designed to be constructed of resilient material and it is provided with terminal hook shaped portions l9 extending in opposite directions and forming pintles 1 for engaging'eyes 13 of the locking lever 6. The locking lever 6 is provided at itsinner portion with spaced eyes 10 and it has cam edges 11 at the inner sides of the eyes, the cam edges being arranged to grip or engage the hook shaped terminal portions of the binding wire at the bends of the hooks for drawing the binding wire inwardly tightly into engagement with the neck of a bottle or analogous receptacles when the locking lever is swung upwardly from the dotted position illustrated in Fig.` 2 of the drawing to the full line position shown in said figure. The locking lever 6 is provided at its outer or upper end with a terminal resilient hook 14: adapted to engage a projection 15 extending upwardly from the outer face of the cap 1 at the top thereof and preferably formed by indenting the same from the interlor.
It will seen that the top or cap is exceedingly slmple and inexpensive in construction, that it is adapted to be readily applied to and removed from the neck of a receptacle, so that it may be used over and over again and that the locking lever is adapted to be ,readily sprung into and out of engagement with the projection 15 for securing the stopper or cap on the receptacle and for releasing the stopper orv cap when the same to be removed.
