BOTTLE CAP AND STOPPER.
vented certain new and -useful Improve ments in Bottle Caps and Stoppers, of which the following is a specification, reference be ing had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a bottle cap and stopper, and more particularly to that type of bottle closure commonly known as the Crown cap.
The primary object of my invention 18 to furnish a cap of the above type with snnple and effective means whereby the cap can be removed from the neck or mouth of a bottle withoutresorting to the use of a separate 2 implement, as the ordinary hook shaped cap removing device commonly used.
Another object of this invention is to furnish a cap w1th an integral opening device that can be easily and quickly shifted into position to pry or force a cap from the neck of a bottle.
A further object of' this invention is to provide a cap and cap opening device that can be made from a single piece of material and consequently manufactured at a minimum cost.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a strong and durable cap removing device that can be safely used without a. liability of the hands being injured or a bottle broken..
I attain objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of a cap in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the same, and Fig. .45 3 is a perspective view of the cap and the opening device thereof.
The reference numeral 1 denotes an ordinary'cap that-is shaped to be forced upon and held in engagement with the mouth or neck 2 0f a bottle or other receptacle. The
Formed integral with the flange 2 is an Specification of Letters Patent.

opening device, comprising :1 depending bar 3 that is bent upon itself, as at 1 and the lower end thereof flared to provide a finger piece or hand grip 5. The flat side of the bar is radially disposed relatively to the center of the cap 1 and said bar has a web (3 at the edge of the flange 2, said web having a small slip or slot 7, which permits of the end of the bar 3 being bent upwardly to engage the flange 2, with the finger piece 5 extending outwardly in a plane horizontal with the cap 1. "lheopening device is arranged between two of the crimps or scallops 8 of the cap 1 whereby the intermediate portion of the flange 2 can be slitted or slotted, as previously mentioned. \Vith the opening device in a horizontal plane with the cap 1 and the end 'of a bar 3 engaging the flange 2, a bottle can be held in one hand while the cap 1 is forced from the mouth or neck thereof. The bottle opening device is made of a sufficient length whereby considerable leverage can be obtainedfor removing the cap 1, and with the opening device extending from said cap against the outer side of a bottle neck, it does not interfere with the bottle being handled orpacked in the ordinary and well known manner. A gasket 9 made of cork or other material can be used in connection with the cap 1. 4
It is thought that the utility and convenience of a bottle cap in accordance with this invention will be apparent without further description, and I would have it understood that the structural elements are susceptible to such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. As a new article of manufacture comprising a crown cap having means for removing the same from a bottle neck, said means consisting of a bar having each upper corner thereof formed integral with the crown thereby providing an opening between the bar and the cap, said bar having its upper portion bent longitudinally upon itself thereby providing a free edge dis posed at right angles with respect to the cap, said free edge adapted when the bar 15 raised to engage the cap for removing the latter from a bottle neck.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a crown cap provided with means for removing the same from a bottle neck, said means consisting of a har depending from the cap crown cap provided with means for removing thesame from a bottle neck, said means consisting of a bar depending from the cap and including a free upper edge disposed at right angles with respect to the rim of the cap,"and providing means to engage the rim of the cap when the bar is raised to remove the cap from a bottle neck, said barjhaving its lower portion constituting a finger piece.
ing its upper 1portion bent longitudinally upon itself, eac of said bent portions having its inner corner integral with the cap,
said bent portions disposed atright angles with respect to the cap and 'providingmeans when the bar is raised to enga e the rim ofv the cap to remove the latter rom a bottle neck, the lower portion of-said bar consti-' tuting a finger-piece.
