BOTTLE AND JAR CAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 21, 1911.
Original application filed February 23, 1909, Serial No. 479,400. Divided and this application filed August 3,
To all whom it may concern' Be it known that I, HENRY P. YOUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bottle and Jar Caps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a cap designed especially for use in connection with milk bottles, and is a divisional application of forms or caps shown originally in my application filed February 23, 1909, and bearing Serial Number 479,400.
The object of this invention is a closure device adapted especially for use in connection with jars and the larger sizes of bottles, which can be removed without requiring the puncture of the closing device by a sharp instrument, and which when in position will not extend or project above the top of the bottle or jar.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the device. Fig. 2'is a sectional view, the device being shown in position for use.
This device consists essentially of a clos- Serial No. 511,037.
ing cup-shaped cap having a central bottom portion 5 and surrounded by a circumferential continuous flange 6, the bottom of the cap being substantially of the same diameter as the mouth of the bottle or jar to be closed, the said cap fitting in the mouth and the flange resting also in the mouth of the bottle or jar and against the sides of the same. To facilitate removal the flange is provided with a plurality of slots"? which form finger openings by means of which the cap can be lifted from position.
What I claim is A bottle or jar closing device consisting of a cupshaped cap having a central bottom portion of a diameter equal to that of the mouth of the receptacle to be closed, and having a continuous circumferential flange of the same width throughout adapted to rest within the mouth of the receptacle, the said flange having a plurality of slots formed therein, as and for the purpose set forth.
