BOTTLE ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 22, 1908.
Application filed July 23, 1908. Serial No. 445,036.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY B. Dnxnma citizen of the United statearesiding at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottle Attachments, of which the following is a specificatlon.
This invention relates towottle attach-v ments, the ob'ect in view b ingto provide a bottle attac ment in the form of a guard or protector for the mouth and stopper of the bottle which, by reason of its peculiar formation, is ada ted to give warnlng to a person that the ottle contains poison or other contents of a dangerous or harmful nature, the device thereby acting to caution at night time or in dark e'contents of the bottle.
The main object of the present invention is to provide a device of the character referred to which may be manufactured very cheaply out of scraps of sheet metal and applied to bottles of varying sizes.
The invention consists in the novel construction combination and arran ement herein fully described,fl illustrate and claimed. I
In the accompanying drawings :Fi ure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a iottle showing the improved device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device shown embracing the stopper. 3 is a-horizontal section through the device. Y
The device is preferably constructed of sprin metal such as hard-rolled tin, brass or t e li e, the same being bent into the form of a split cylindrical collar or band 1 havin one edge thereof, which constitutes the ower edge, when the device is in its applied position, turned inward to form a bottom retainin flange 2 coextensive in length with the co lar or band and adapted to engage under the usualshoulder 3 formed by the rimor bead 4 at the upper extremity of a bottle.
wardly projecting barbs 6 forming rou hened pro'ections on the outer surface 0 he evice, Whi e the u per edge thereof is serrated or notched to f drm teeth-like rojections 7, the said projections 6- and 7 ein noticeable through the person picking u t e bottle or attempting to extract the cor or sto per 8 therefrom, thus giving notice of the angerous or harmful nature of the contents of the bottle. The height of the collar or band is suflicient to cause it to project above the lane of the to of the stopper as shown in ig. 1, thus ma ing it practically impossible to remove the sto per without first removing the collar or band? The retaining flange 2 by reason of being continuous, imparts t e requisite strength, durability and spring to the device while also providmg an effective re taining means whereby the device is held on the neck of the bottle.
I claim: 7 A bottle attachment consisting of a split spring collar or band of sheet metal havm projections on the outer surfa thereof an eving the bottom edge thereoi bent inward to form a retaining flan e coextensive in length with the body 0 the device and ada ted to enga e beneath the rim or bead on 510 neck of a ottle, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses,
HENRY B. DEKEN. i
