BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 561,668, dated June 9, 1896.
Application filed February 8, 1896. Serial No. 578,594. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEMUEL O. KENDALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bottles of that class which are designed not to be refilled; and it has for its obj ects, among others, to provide a simple and cheap construction of bottle which can be easily filled and corked and sealed and which cannot be opened without breaking ofii a portion of the neck of the bottle, after which the cork can be withdrawn in the ordinary way. The bottle is formed with an extension or elongation of its neck, which extension is provided with interior shoulders or projections, under which is adapted to be sprung a metallic cap, which effectually prevents access to the cork without breaking oii the extension, which latter may be rendered more easily broken by making it thinner at its junction with the body portion of the bottle.
Other objects and advantages of the inven tion will. hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be specifically defined by the appended claim.
The invention in this instance resides in the peculiar construction of the bottle and the novel means for sealin g the same, all as.n1ore fully hereinafter described, shown in the drawings, and then particularly pointed out in the claim.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a substantially central vertical section through a bottle provided with my improvements. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the cap removed. Fig. 3 is a view of the bottle after the extension has been broken off.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referringnow to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the bottle, which is provided with an annular enlargement c1, and above the same an extension B, which is made thinner at its junction with the neck at the said enlargement, so that it may be easily broken therefrom by a sharp blow when it is desired to get at the contents of the bottle. The extension is formed with an interior shoulder O, as seen best in Fig. 1, and with the interior shoulder or projections D.
E is a metallic cap having the legs or arms F, which are of spring material and which project from the cap at diametrically opposite points, although there may be three or more of these arms or legs, if found necessary.
In practice the bottle is filled in the usual manner and the cork G inserted in the neck portion thereof, as shown. Then the cap is applied, and as itis pushed in the arms will spring out with a snap under the shoulder or projection O, and the body portion of the cap will spring or snap under the projections D, and. when once in place it will be impossible to remove the cap, and the only way that the contents of the bottle can be gotten at will be to break ofi the extension at the weakened point, and then the cork can be withdrawn with a corkscrew or other means.
Modifications in detail may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages. The cap may be of any suitable material, not necessarily metal.

A bottle formed with a neck with an enlargement and an extension beyond the enlargement formed with two sets of projections upon its inner wall, combined with a metallic cap having spring-arms and a spring body portion adapted to be sprung under said projections, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
