Description
T. P. PICK.
BOTTLE STOPPER. APPLIOATION FIL-BD M1128, 1911.
Patented May 26, 1914.
I /r'lllllll /ymd/ as@ Ma UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS P. PICK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BOTTLE-STOPPER.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS P. PICK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-Stoppers, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to improvements in bottle stoppers .and has for its object to provide a bottle stopper so constructed that it may be arranged to fit bottles having mouths of varying sizes.
l/Vith the above and other objects in view I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure l is a bottle neck shown in vertical section having one of my Stoppers inserted therein, Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of my improved stopper, Fig. 8 is a section taken on line aof Fig, 2, and F ig. 4L is a detail elevational view of a nesting member.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the specification and in the several views of the drawings in whichl indicates the upper or knob portion of a bottle stopper having a centrally disposed depending screw-threaded lug 2 thereon, said knob being hollow and having an annular depending` flange. Seated between the portion l and the stopper proper is an inverted cup-shaped disk 3 having a scalloped edge 4, and located between this and the stopper proper is a flange gasket 5 which may be made of rubber or other suitable material. The screw-threaded lug 2 projects through both the central portion of the disk and the gasket, and screw-threaded to said lug is a hollow conical stopper 6, which at its lower end is provided with an inwardly extending internally screw-threaded boss 7. Over the member 6 may be seated a series of nested members 8 and 9. These members 8 and 9 may be held to the member 6 by means of a screw 10 which passes through openings Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 2S, 1911.
Patented May 26, 1914. serial No. 668,376.
in the lower ends of the members 8 and 9 which aline with the internally screwthreaded boss 7 The object of having the member 3 scalloped is to prevent its tendency to roll when the stopper is taken out of the bottle and laid on the counter or table.
The stopper as shown in use in Fig. 1, shows the members 8 and 9 removed and in a bottle of this size the member 6 preferably fits. Should it be desired to use the stopper for a bottle with a larger mouth, the member 8 may be secured to the member 6, or if the stopper is desired for a bottle having a still larger mouth, both the members 8 and 9 may be secured to the member 6 by means of the screw 10, as shown in F ig. 2. Thus it will be seen that my stopper is adapted to be used in connection with bottles having mouths of varying sizes.
Having now described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A device of the class described comprising a hollow knob, an annular depending flange upon said knob, a centrally disposed screwthreaded lug upon said knob and located within said flange1 a holle-w conical stopper threaded upon said lug, an inverted cup shaped disk upon said lug in engagement with said 'liange, a gasket of greater diameter than the base of said stopper secured upon said lug, said diskbeing of greater diameter than said flange and gasket, said stopper having a threaded opening at its apex, nested cone-shaped members mounted upon said stopper and a securing device engaging said .nested members and the apex opening of said stopper. i
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS P. PICK.
