GOLLAPSING CUP.

Nirnn STATES ATENT Genion.
AUGUST H. WIRZ, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
COLLAPSING CUP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,902, dated April 15, 1884.
Application led March 10, 1884. (No model.)
1' 0 a/ZZ whom it may concern.:
Be it known that I, AUGUST H. WIRZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Phila-V delphia, in the county of- Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsing Cups; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appert-ains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to collapsing drinkingcups; and the improvement consists in making the case that incloses the parts attachable t0 the base of the cup, so that when yeither open or closed the whole device forms one piece.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation showing the cup closed. Fig. 2 is a section through Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the cup open and ready for use. Fig. 4 is a section through Fig. 3;
a aa represent the several collapsing parts b is ascrcwthread surrounding the outer upper portion of the base B. b is a screw-thread on the inner side of the lower edge of the base B. Gis the cap for inclosing the parts a a. c is a screwthread on theouter lower edge of the cap C. c is a screw-thread on the inner edge ofthe cap and opposite to the screw-thread c.
When desiring to use the cup, it being closed with the cap C screwed on the top, as shown in Figs. l and 2, the said cap is unscrewed from the base B, thus releasing the parts a a and allowing them to be extended, so as to form the cup. The cap Gis then screwed onto the under side of the base B, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. It will be readily seen that by this means all danger of losing the cap is avoided, and, besides, when secured to the cup in this manner,the cap forms a substantial base, preventing the cup from being topheavy when placed on the table or other support.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is-
l. In a collapsing cup, the cap C, having on its outer lower edge the screw-thread c, in
combination with the base B, having on the inner lower edge thereof the screw-thread b", substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. In a collapsing cup, the base B, having thereon the inner and outer screw-threads, b and b', in combination with the cap C, having inner and outer screw-threads, c c', substan` tial] y as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AUGUST H. WIRZ.
