To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Tnunn T. LEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Amos, in the county of Baxter and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Clips, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to an improved spring clip and has for its primary object to provide a simply constructed and very serviceable clip or fastener of that character together a plurality of paper sheets, cards, or analogous articles. l

It is one of the important objects of the invention to provide a clip orfastener constructed from a single length of resilient wire bent upon itself to afford a multiplicity of gripping points so that the paper sheets orother articles will be securely held.

More specifically, it is the object and purpose of my invention to provide a fastening clip of the above character which is particularly serviceable in holding together adjacent cards when arranged in rows or columns, the edges of the cards being insertible into opposite ends of the clip between the gripping portions thereof. 7

And it is likewise a general object of my invention to provide a clip or fastening device having the above noted advantageous features which is at the same'time exceedingly simple in its construction and can be produced in large quantities at comparatively small cost.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the improved clip construction which will be hereinafter more specifically claimed and illustrated in theaccompanying drawings in "which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and wherein:

Figure 1 is an elevation showing the use of my improved clip in holding cards or like articles together when arranged end to end;

Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 illustrating the device used in the manner of the ordinary paper clip; and- Fig. 4 is an edge view.

Referring in detail to the drawin 5 designites generally the single length 0 resilient wire of requisite gage or thickness from which the clip is formed. This length of wire is bent upon itself to provide a straight intermediate portion 6 of predetermined. length. From the ends of this straight portion 6 of the wire, said wire is bent to provide the portions 7 extending upon one side of the portion 6 and in convergent relation to each other. The portions 6 and 7 are integrally connected by the curved or rounded portions 8.

In advance of the point at which the portion 7 of the wire would intersect if extended, the wire is again bent at an obtuse angle with respect to the portion 7 to provide the oppositely extending longitudinal side portions 9 which are disposed in substantially parallel relation to the straight side portions 6 of the clip. These portions 9 at their inner ends are in overlapping relation and are normally held in close contact upon each other by the inherent resiliency of the metal, thereby affording a gripping point as indicated at 10.

At the outer ends of the portions 9 of the wire, the ends of the wire are bent and extended inwardly, as at 11 in intersecting relation to the wire portions 7. These point of intersection of the wires 7 and ll afford additional gripping points 12 at the opposite ends of the clip. The'portions 11 of the wire terminate in spaced relation to the straight side portions 6 of the clip and the terminal portions are angularly bent, as at 13, and disposed in intersecting relation to each other, said terminal portions extending toward the side portion 9 of the clip. By thus disposing the wire terminals in intersecting relation, a gripping point 14 is afforded at the approximate center of the clip which is in alineinent with the gripping points 12. Thus there is provided four separate and distinct points at which the wire clip will have a gripping action upon the articles.

The clip produced in the manner above .described is substantially of rectangular elongated -for m, .and is .not liable to be easily bent or-distorted, as'ithe several parts when in theirznormal condition render the clip as a Wlitile, relatively rigid.

From {the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and manner of use of my improved clip or fastener will be clearly and fiilly understood. The device can of course be made in various sizes, the gage or thickness of the Wire being correspondingly increased or decreased, 1 have above referred to What I have found to be the preferred form and construction of the device in practical use, but;it will be apparent that the clip is susceptible of certain modifications in the form and proportion of its various parts. Accordingly, I reserve the privilege of resorting to all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A clip formed from a single length of resilient Wire having intersecting gripping portions at each end of the-clip and other intersecting gripping portions at the approximate center of the clip, and additional gripping portions laterally spaced from the last named intersecting portions of the clip, all of said gripping portions opcratively engaging an article held by the clip.

A clip formed from a single length of resilient material having a straight side portion6', and additional side portions 9 in resilient contact Witheachother to afford a gripping point, the end portion of the material forming an angle with respect to said side portions .9 and said end portions having, resilient engagement upon each other intermediate of the side portion (3 and the side portions-:9 .to provide an additional gripping point, said end portions of the material terminating contiguous to the resiliently engaged side portions 9.
