DESIGN.
E. HOLBROOK. HANDLE FOR smous, &o.
N0. 27,846. Patented Nov. 16, 1897.
WIZ'A'EEEZEI UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDVVABD HOLBROOK,
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS, 84.0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,846, dated November 16, 1897. A li ti fil d October 4, 1897. Serial No. 654,092. Term of patent 7 years.
To (ti/l whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD HOLBROOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Handles of Spoons, Forks, and Similar Articles; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is the obverse view of the handle of a spoon showing my design, the tines of a fork being indicated in broken lines. Fig. 2
-is the reverse View of the handle connected with the bowl of a spoon.
The leading feature of my design consists in the ornamentation resembling the stems, leaves, and the spikes of the timothy or meadow plant arranged in an ornamental pattern.
In the drawings, A indicates the bowl of the spoon, B the stem, and O the blade of the handle.
On the obverse side (shown in Fig. 1) from the junction of the handle with the bowl extend upward the stems 3, representing the stems of the timothy-grasses; 4 4, the lower shorter leaves, extending in opposite directions across the handle. The long leaf 5 extends across the handle and upward on the opposite side, The spikes 6 6 extend over and between the blades of the grasses with which the seed-spikes 7 of the meadow-fescue are interspersed. The leaves extend around the blade of the handle, inc-losing the panel 8, which is surmounted by the floral ornament resembling a bunch of clover-leaves 9.
On the reverse side of the handle (shown in Fig. 2) two stems 3 3, resembling timothygrasses, extend along the margin of the handle, the leaves 12 12 pointing inward and the spikes 13 13 extending upward over the leaves.
011 the upper end of the handle bunches of smaller leaves extend across each other to form the end ornament 10. The union of the handle with the bowl is ornamented with the representation of grass and clover-leaves 11. The Whole ornamentation gives to the handle the appearance of being formed of the timothy-grasses or meadow-catstail, the ornamentation being in relief.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a handle for spoons, forks and similar articles herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
EDXVARD IIOLBROOK.
