ADLEY Handlas.
Fork
, Patentedxlunel, 1875.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH F. FRADLEY, OF BROOKLYN, NEWT YORK.
DESIGN FOR FORK-HANDLE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 8,369, dated June 1, 1875; application lilcd April 17, 1875. [Term of Patent 7 years] CASE A.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosEPH F. FRADLEY, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new Design for Spoon and Fork Handles, of which the following is a specification:
This invention is illustrated in the aecompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 represents a face view of one side ot' a spoon or iork handle. Fig. 2 is a similar View of the other side.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
The design on one side of the handle A consists of a bead, a, which is close to the junction of the handle with the head of a fork or with the bowl of a spoon, said bead being ornamented by a twist, as shown. This bead extends across a series of longitudinal ribs, b, which extend up to a scrollband, c, that extends across the handle and forms the base for the stems of a bunch of flowers, the butt ends of said stems being covered by leaves d. The bunch of owers e, interspersed with leaves, occupies the outer dat portion of the handles. The opposite side of the handle A is ornamented by arabesques f over an escutcheon, g, which snrmounts an X-shaped ornament, h, contained on an enlarged part, i, of the handle. Close to the junction of the handle, with the head of a fork or with the bowl of a spoon, is a scroll, j, over a bunch of leaves, k.
The handles of spoons and forks have heretofore been decorated with longitudinal ribs and a transverse beaded bar, both of which are on the handle beneath a cross-bar and iowers. So, therefore, l do not, broadly, claim such ornamentation; but
What l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The design for a spoon and fork handle, composed of the scroll c and leaves f1, as shown and described.
2. The design for a spoon Iand fork handle ofthe arabesques f, escutcheon g, and X-shaped ornament h, as shown and described.
3. The design for a spoon and fork handle, composed of the twist-bead a, ribs b, scroll c, leaves d, and tlowers e, as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing l have hereunto set my hand this 27th day of February, 1875.
J. F. FRADLEY.
