Description

/1; van-[77- Wan @ydzz UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HERMAN VASSEUR, OF \VALLINGFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO SIMP- SON, HALL, MILLER 85 00., OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR SPOON-HANDLES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,691, dated May 21, 1878; application filed May 13, 1878.
[Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN VASSEUR, of VVallingford, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Spoon-Handle; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanyingdrawings and the etters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure 1, face View of the handle; Fig. 2, transverse section, enlarged.
This invention relates to a design for the handles of spoons, forks, and like articles of table service, entitled in this application spoon-handle; and it consists in the configuration and ornamentation of the handle, as shown in the accompanying illustration, and hereinafter described.
The handle, from the narrowest portion, near the bowl, gradually widens toward the tip. The end of the handle terminates in a semi-trefoil-that is to say, the end of the broad part of the handle consists of a segment with a central lancet-point, corresponding substantially in its curves to the curves or parts of the segment at each side. This peculiar end is in itself, however, well known.
About midway of the handle a boss, a, is formed, and ornamented in rosette shape. From this boss a bead extends around the outer edge of the two sides and tip. In this inclosed space there is a plain raised panel, I), semicircular at its top, gradually running to a point at the boss, and surrounded by a head. This panel is raised so as to present a convex surface in transverse section, as shown in Fig. 2, enlarged. At the top of this plain raised panel b, and within the lancct-shaped portion of the tip, is the representation of lily-leav'es, from which a fioriated vine extends down each side in the space between the central raised portion and the headed edge.
I claini- The herein-described design for spoon, consisting of the handle gradually expanding toward the tip, and terminating in a semi-trefoil, combined with a raised plain convex center, semicircular at its top, and running, to a point at the boss a, the space between the said center and be ded edge ornamented, sub stantially as described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
HERMAN VASSEUR.
