{W552 OF 0 2095495 DESIGN.
0. E. GALT. HANDLE FOR FORKS, SPOONS, 0R SIMILAR WARE. N0..1,20,54-5. Patented Mar. 3,1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES l HAT/l, ()ll llIILADELIIHA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR 'lO DAVIS dz GAL'I, OF NAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR FORKS, SPOONS, 0R SIMILAR WARE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,545, dated. March 3, 1891.
Application filed January '7, 1891. serial No. 377,044. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. GALT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Philadelphia,in the county of Philadelphia, and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented and piodnced a new and original Design for Flat \Vare; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the front or top of a fork or spoon handle made in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2,21, similar view of the back of the handle, and Fig. 3 a viewof asection on linem /cof Fig. 1.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
The object of my invention has been to pro duce a new ornamental and attractive design for the handles of forks, spoons, knives, &c.; and to this end my invention consists in the design as hereinafter specified.
As shown in the drawings, the leading featu res of my design are the plain swelled center A and the ornamented border B to contrast with such center. At the upper end of the center, on the back of the handle, a tip 0 is shown; but it is not a material feature of the design. To increase the contrast between the center and border, the latter is raised above the neighboring plain surface of the former. Along the borders inner edge or the outer edge of the center runs a thread D, terminating with the border at the lower end of the handle.
In a handle for forks, spoons, knives, and the like formed in accordance with my de sign the ornamented border and plain swelled center are found to be so contrasted as to produce a very rich and pleasing effect. The raising of the ornamented surface of the border above the adjoining parts of the face of the swelled center increases the contrast, so as to improve the cited; and give the handle a most attractive appearance.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A. design for the handles of spoons, forks, knives, and the like, comprising a plain center swelled on the front and back and an. ornam cntal border, as herein described and shown.
2. In a design for the handles of spoons, forks, knives, and the like, the front face consisting of a plain swelled center and a raised ornamented border, as herein described and shown.
3. In a design for the handles of spoons, forks, knives, and the like, the back consisting of a swelled center and an ornamented border, as herein described and shown.
, In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 30th day of December, 1890.
CHARLES E. GAUI.
