. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GILBERT L. CRO'WELL, JR, OF ARLINGTON, NEYV JERSEY, ASSIGN OR TO DOMINICK d: HAFF, OF NElV YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A SPOON, 84.0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,393, dated December 15, 1896.
Application filed August 29, 1896. $erial No. 604,335. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GILBERT L. CRowELL, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at Arlington, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and useful Design for Handles for Spoons, Forks, and Similar Articles, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the design.
Figure 1 is a plan or elevation view of the front or obverse side of a spoon. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the reverse or rear side of the spoon, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the handle on plane a a.
The general outline of the handle is'of the lyrate or oblong spatulate form.
The design of the obverse side of the handle is characterized by a border or ribbon of flowers running around the edge of the upper part of the handle and merging into a common surface decoration on the shank of the handle, which border is composed of a variety of flowers and interspersed leaves, the largest flower of the design appearing at the upper end of the handle.
A represents a portion of the border on the opposite edges of the widest part of the handle. 13 represents the largest flower of such border and located at the upper end of the handle. 0 represents the union or junction design of this border as the same is extended along the shank of the handle.
As shown in Fig. 3, the shape of the handle at its widest portion is convex as to its obverse side and concave as to its reverse side.
The design of the reverse side of the handle is characterized by an effuse border of secund-leaves following or running around the edge of the handle, as seen particularly at D and E, and merging into a contracted form of the same design, filling the upper part and running along the edges of the shank and ending in the leaf design F on the bowl of the spoon.
The essential features of the obverse face of the handle are the outline shape and the border of a variety of flowers, as shown. The essential characteristics of design of the reverse face of the handle are the profile of the handle and the secund border of the same, as shown.
l Vhat is claimed as new is- 1. The design for the obverse side of a handle for a spoon, fork or similar article, substantially as shown and described.
2. The design for the reverse side of a handle for a spoon, fork or similar article, substantially as shown and described.
3. The design of a handle of a spoon, fork or similar article, substantially as shown and described.
