No. 20,113. Patented Aug. 26, 1890.

DESIGN FOR A HANDLE MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR & BROS, OF SAME PLACE.
TO 0. ROGERS FOR SPOONS OR FORKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,113, dated August 26, 1890. Application filed July 26, 1890. Serial No. 36 0,091. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR G. ROGERS, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Handles for Spoons or Forks; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents a face view illustrating a fork by full lines and a spoon by broken lines.
This invention relates to a design for the ornamentation of the handles of spoons, forks, and kindred articles; and the design consists in the ornamentation, as shown in the accompanying illustration, and hereinafter described.
The face of the shank is ornamented by the representation of a series of alternating broad and narrow transverse ribs a and b, the series being flanked at each end by one of the narrow ribs. The tip of the handle begins at the c5 outer end of the said series of ribs and grad ually widens from that point to its end, its edges being curved or waved. Its face is ornamented by a plain ribbon or flat scroll 0, extending obliquely across the center and having the appearance of passing under its edges. Those portions of the face of the tip respectively lying on opposite sides ofthis scroll or ribbon are ornamented by leaf-like arabesques d, raised above a stippled ground f and flowing into the lines formed by the waved edges of the tip.
The particular character of the transverse ribs and the arabesques maybe changed, the essential feature of my design being the represention of waved edges, 3. central oblique ribbon, and arabesques flowing into the lines of the said edges.
I claim- The design for a spoon or fork handle, as shown and described.
ARTHUR o. ROGERS.
