UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
FRANOIS DIMIEl-t, Ol NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR 'lO THEODORE l S'lAltlt, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A SPOON OR FORK HANDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,143, dated August 8, 1882,
Application died June 21, 1882. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, FRANCIS DIMIER, of the city, county, and Stto of New York, have invented a new and mproved Design for the Handles ot' Spoons, Forks, and other Articles, of which the following is a lull, clear, and exact description.
Rel'erenceis to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 represents my design for the front of ahandle. Fig. 2 represents my design for the back of a handle.
The leadingleature of my design consists in a flenr-de-lis ornament for the upper part of the front of a handle.
The handle has a raised head, A, upon its edge, giving an appearance of heaviness to the handle, and with deep edge indentations, B, in the middle part of the said handle. In the upper part of the front of the handle is a fieur-de-lis ornament, O, formed of a central ornament having upon each side a fleur-de-lis, and at the outer side of each fleur-de-lis an ornamental scroll. The whole is confined by a diadem-shaped band, below which project the lower ends of the central ornament and the scrolls, and below the said end is an inverted fleur-de-lis. In the middle part of the front of the handle, above the indentations B, is a combined scroll and leaf ornament, D, and below the said indentatiousis an ornament, E, formed of a number of inverted lleur-de-1is gradually decreasing in size, and with each lower flower partly covered by the one above it. At the lower end of the front of the handle is an ornament, F, resembling a thistle-blossom tassel with a leaf ornament below it. At the upper end of the back of the handle is a scroll ornao 1nent,G. surmounted by a pine-cone ornament. At the middle part of the back of the handle, above the indentations B, is an ornament, H, formed of a flower surrounded by scrolls and surmounted by a minaret-like ornament; and 15 below the indentations B is an ornament, I, formed of a line of the lower parts of tlenr-delis gradually diminishing in size, the upper parts of the flowers being omitted. At the lower end of the back of the handle is a leaf o and-scroll ornament, J, surmounted by a row of dots gradually diminishing in size.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The design for the front of a handle here- 55 in shown and described, the same consisting of the fleur-de-lis ornament (J, the scrollandleaf ornament I), the inverted fleur-de-lis ornameht E, and the thistle-blossom ornament F, as set forth.
2. Thcdesign for the llflt'k of a handle herein shown and described, the same consisting of the scroll ornament G, the flower-and-scroll ornament H, the fleur-delis ornament I, and the leaf-and-scroll ornament J, as set forth.
