UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSIAH C. GOODING, OF COVING'ION, INDIANA.
DESIGN FOR A DESK AND SEAT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,600, dated August 20, 1895.
Application filed July 17, 1895. Serial No. 556.294. Term of patent 14 years- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSIAH C. Goonmo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Covington, in the county of Fountain and State of Indiana, have in vented and produced a new and original Design for a Desk and Seat, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a desk and seat embodying my design. Fig. 2 is a side view.
The leading features of my design consist in a raised side panel set into a curved supporting-frame, a fiat horizontally-arranged top piece joining or intersecting an inclined front piece in a curve, and a seat intersecting the front piece at or near the lower edge thereof at right angles, substantially as will hereinafter appear.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the desk and seat as a whole. The said desk comprises a supporting-frame 1, the upper member 2 of which being straight and horizontally arranged, while the verticallydisposed members 3 and 4 join or intersect the said upper member in curves, as shown at 5. The said member 3 is set inwardly or curved for its whole length, and terminates at the lower end with a projection or foot 6, while the said member 4 is approximately straight for its length and inclines slightly in the direction of the member 3, and likewise terminates at its lower end in a similar pro- 3 5 jection or foot 6. Set into this frame and extending for about the full upper half of the same is a panel B, which, as shown, projects or bulges outward from the frame to a slight extent, and this panel is preferably of smooth surface. As shown, the panel is stamped with curved figures, which are formed by cutting through the body of metal or material -of which the panel is formed.
Viewing the desk and seat in the perspective shown at Fig. 1, the top piece 8 is flat and horizontally disposed, while the front piece 8 is slightly inclined in conformity with the inclination of the member 4 of the frame, and said top piece and front piece in tersect or join in a curve, as indicated at 10; also, as viewed from this same figure of the drawings, the said top piece and front piece are set inward somewhat from the outer edge of the frame.
The seat is bounded by the lines 11, 12, 13, and 14, the linell intersecting the lower edge of the front piece, as shown. Also intersecting the under side of the seat and the said member 4 of the frame is a bracket 15, being inclined both with respect to said seat and said member. As seen in Fig. 2, said bracket extends for a considerable portion of the width of the seat.
What I claim is- The design for a desk and seat substantially as described and shown.
In testimony-whereof Iafiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSIAH G. GOODING.
