PATENT OFFICE.
SAYERS, ()h CINCINNATI, ()Illt).
DESIGN FOR A SEAT FOR VEHICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 25,339, dated March 31, 1896.
Application filed November 8, 1895. Serial No. 568,365. Term of patent Si years.
To all whom it may concern.-
. le it known that I, \VILLIAM A. SAYERS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Design for VehicleSeats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a new and improved design for Vehicle-seats. Its object is to so form and shape the seat-frame, its cushion, and apron that a neat and beautiful appearance is given to the whole when placed in position for use.
The distinguishing features of the invention consist in the beaded lines surrounding the wings and front of the cushion, the beaded edges of the side and back of the seat-frame, together with the paneled appearance of the front cushion and apron.
The annexed drawing is a perspective View of my invention.
The seat-frame, in its mechanical construction, does not differ materially from those in common use. My improvement, so far as the frame of the seat-frame is concerned, consists in forming upon its sides and back a narrow head a, the head on the front edges of the side pieces continuing down only upon the outer Walls, leaving fiat spandrels a" between the bead and the vertical and lower front edges of the cushion B. This bead a dies away toward the lower line of the seat-frame, and upon each lower edge of the seat-frame is also formed a bead a the front ends of the bead dying away into the flat spandrels a.
The cushion B has at each side upturned semicylim'lrical wings (I, which come flush with the top edges of the sides of the scatfralne. These wings have heads (1 formed around them, beginning at the back, cxteuding to the front parallel with the heads a upon the top edge of the seat-frame, thence cu rving at each end downwardly and extending in a straight line across the front of the cushion below the tufted seat proper, the wings (I upon each side dying away into the curved ends of the bead. Upon the lower front edge of the cushion is formed a bead (Z and between this bead and the head (1 011 the front of the cushion is formed a raised panel (1".
The apron U, which depends from the front lower edge of the cushion, has a head 0 uniting with the lower head (I of the cushion and entirely surrounding the outer edge of the apron, and beginning near the upper ends of the bead upon each side is a depression 0', extending diagonally in from the bead, and then following in parallel lines the sides and lower edge of the apron, forming a raised panel c around the edges of the apron.
The beads, lines, and raised panels upon the seat-frame, the cushion and apron are thus made each to harmonize with the other and produce a very pleasing effect.
\Vhat I claim is The design for vehicle-seats, substantially as herein shown and described.
