UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN ARTHUR MCDERMOTT, OF lVASI-IINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
DESIGN FOR A BUGGY-BODY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,264, dated April 30, 1895.
Application filed March 18, 1895. Serial No. 542,269. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN ARTHUR MCDER- MOTT, acitizen of the United States, residing at \Vashington city, District of Columbia, have invented or produced a new and original Design fora Buggy-Body, of which the following is a specification.
This design has for its object to provide a handsome buggy-body, which is ornamental, symmetrical, and peculiarly characteristic in appearance.
The leading feature of the design resides in a buggy-body having inclined sides and an outwardly inclined back joining the sides of a relatively high phaeton seat-frame which rises from the seat.
The design is illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a perspective view of a buggy-body embodying my new design.
In the drawing the numeral 1 indicates the sides of the buggy-body which incline or swell outwardly from the bed 2, to the sides 3 of a phaetou seatframe which rises from the seat 4.
The back 5 of the buggy-body inclines forwardly from the bed 2 to the back 6 of the phaeton seat-frame. The pillars 7 each incline rearwardly, and from the lower portion each runs in a deep, graceful curve, as at 8, to the front extremity, or neck of the bed, where a suitable dash 9 is arranged.
A narrow band, rib, or stripe 10, extends along each side of the front portion of the bed, and a similar band, rib, or stripe 12, inclines rearwardly from the bed to the top of each side 3 of the phaeton seat-frame. A wider band, rib, or stripe 13, extends around the buggy-body at the junction of the sides 3 and back 6 of the phaetou seat-frame with the sides 1 and back 5 of the body.
The neck portion, or extreme front end of the bed of the buggy-body is formed with a graceful, upward curve, as at 14.
The sides and back of the phaeton seatframe swell outwardlyin graceful curves, and arched, or curved railings 15 extend from the front edges, or ends of the sides 3 of the seatframe.
A foot-rest rail 16, is arranged above the upwardly curved neck portion, or extreme front end of the bed of the body.
The relative proportions of the back and sides of the seat-frame and the body proper, are such that the seat appears located very deep between the back and sides of the seatframe, thus imparting a new effect to the general appearance of the body as a unit.
The design provides a handsome, ornamental bnggy-body which presents a characteristic and distinguishing appearance to the eye.
What I claim is The design for a buggy-body, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN ARTHUR MCDERMOTI. [n a] Witnesses:
