UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. GAVIN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE L. WVOLFF MANU- FACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A SlTZ-BATH TUB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,393, dated June 11, 1895.
Application filed April 27, 1895 Serial No. 547,410. Term of patent 14: years.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN H. GAVIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for an Enameled-Iron Sitz-Bath Tub, of which the following isa specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
The drawings show at Figure 1 a perspective view, and at Fig. 2 a plan view,of a sitzbath tub embodying my design. Fig. 3 is a cross-section on line 3 3 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section on line at a of Fig. 2, allthese views being necessary to fully illustrate my design.
The leading feature of my invention consists in the particular shape and outline of the sitz bathtub, as shown in the accompanying drawings, and by which the tub, as a whole, is given somewhat the appearance of an easy chair-that is to say: the tub embodying my design,as will be seen from the drawings, has a raised and curved and inclined back, higher than the front and side edges of the vessel, and springing from the two sides of the vessel much the same as the inclined and hollowed back of an easy chair springs from the two arms thereof; and the tub has a continuous marginal rolled rim extending continuously around at the upper edge of the two sides and front of the vessel and at the edge of the inclined and curved back of the vessel, thus giving the sides and back of the tub more the appearance of the arms and back of an easy chair. The curvature of this continuous rolled rim merges or vanishes, as shown in the drawings, into the walls of the vessel all around. The rolled run at the sides of the vessel is extended out or pearance of an animals foot, and unite on easy curves with the body of the vessel, as shown in the drawings at Fig. 1.
As will be seen from the drawings, and especially at Fig. 4, the hack B inclines upward and backward to about twice the height 0 of the bowl A of the vessel, and continues the curvature of the bowl until it merges into the rolled rim O, the back and rim forming an ogee curve in uniting. In like manner the front wall A of the bowl unites with the 5 rolled rim C at the front of the bowl by a similar ogee curve 0. The curvature of the bottom of the bowl is clearly indicated in Fig. at at A The continuous rolled rim O is widened or broadened at the sides to form the wings or arms O C. At the inclined and curved back the rolled rim 0 is given an ogee curvature, as is clearly indicated in Fig. l at 0 C The legsF are curved outwardly from the vessel atff, and furnished with claw or toe-shaped ornamentation f.
I claim- The design for a sitz bath tub herein shown and described.
JOHN H. GAVIN.
