M TNESSES'.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JOHN H. GAVIN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE L. WOLFE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A BATH-TUB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,709, dated September 24, 1895.
Application filed August 211, 1896i T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN H. GAVIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois,
' 91W) invented and produced a new and origial Design for Bath-Tubs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, showing a part thereof, wherein-- Figure 1 shows a perspective, Fig. 2 a plan, and Figs. 3 and 4 crosssections, of my design.
The leading feature of my design consists in the particular shape of the bath-tub, as shown in the accompanying drawings, and by which the tub as a whole is given a peculiarly easy, inviting, and pleasing appearance-that is to say, the bath-tub embodying my design, as will be seen from the drawings, has a long body portion A, terminating at one end in a curved and inclined back end B, which eX- tends up like the prow of a boat to about twice the depth of the body portion of the tub, and the tub has its front end Wall C similarly curved and the two side walls D D extending longitudinally in substantially-straight lines, and all three of these walls C D D extending upward nearly vertically, but slightly inclined outward and uniting with the bottom E by curves 0 d d, as shown. The tub embodying my design also has its back wall B $erial No. 560,060. Term ofpatent 14 years.
united with the bottom E by a large curve I). The lateral or horizontal curvature of the inclined back wall B is clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings at b. The tub embodying my design also has a continuous marginal rolled rim F at its upper edge extending all the way around the tub at the sides D D, front end C, and inclined back end B, as shown, and the rolled rim F is somewhat broadened or enlarged along the sides D D, as shown at f ff and the extreme edge f of this rolled rim is turned inward and under, so as to present the appearance of a smooth and continuous roll from the outside at the margin of the tub. The legs H H of the tub have the appearance of the feet of an animal, and bent as if sustaining the weight of the animals body, which the tub may be supposed to represent in effeet, the legs uniting with the body of the tub on easy curves h it, somewhat as the short legs or feet of some animals unite with their bodies. The legs H also have toe-like ornamentations 72 I claim- The design for a bathtub herein shown and described.
