DESlGN FOR A SPOON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,098, dated March 6, 1894.
Application filed Januarti, 1894- Serial No. 496,007- Term of patent 3%. years.
To (0M whom it may concern..-
Be it known that l, BENJAMIN B. FREEMAN, of Cambridge, in the county of llliddlesex, tate of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Spoons, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompany ing drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the obverse of a spoon showing my design; and Fig. 2 a like view of the reverse.
The leading feature of my design consists in aspoon having its handle-head approximately shield shaped and with a three-quarters face view in has relief of the bust of a male person on the front side of said head. The bust is surrounded by a circular laurel wreath. Directly below the laurel wreath is a raised representation of a players mask and projecting longitudinally of the shank below said mask there is a sword or dagger.
The shank of the spoon, centrally, is extended laterally into a shield shaped disk upon which is graven a vase or goblet around which is intwined a serpent. The remainder of the shank connecting with the bowl is incrnsted on its face and the bowl is plain. On the reverse of the handle head shown in Fig. 2, there is a raised oval-shaped bay wreath. On the reverse of the shank coinciding with the dagger and torch a raised scroll work is formed. The reverse of the shield in the shank is plain and concave and the remainder of the shank is incrusted in the same manner as the obverse.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim is- The design for a spoon substantially as herein shown and described.
BENJAMIN B. FREEMAN.
