W fan/0 Kid/(M x UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMERY D. NELLIS, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO THE BRIDGE & BEACH MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design NO. 23,071, dated February 13, 1894. Application filed January 13. 1894. Serial No. 496,811. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMERY D. NELLIs,a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Stoves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of t' s specification, wherein the figure represents a view in perspective of a stove ornamented with my new and original design.
The principal ornamentation is placed upon the fire-box doors, at the front and side, the oven door, the flange projecting from the stove below the oven door, and the legs.
The firebox door, at the front of the stove, is located just above the projecting ash-pan plate, and is provided with draft-openings near its lower edge, between and above which are arranged a series of scrolls. Above the line of scrolls, is a name-plate. at the sides of and above which are arranged scrolls. The fire-box door, located at the sides of thestove, is ornamented with scrolls, to one of which lead the others. The oven-door is ornamented with scrolls at its upper and lower surfaces, which scrolls are independent of each other, but are formed of a series of small scrolls connected with each other, as shown. The handle on the oven door is formed in the shape of a scroll, which turns back on itself at its upper righthaud edge. At the base of this scroll, on the face of the same, are scrolls from which radiate smaller scrolls. Scrolls are arranged, also, on the turned-back end of the larger scroll forming the handle. \Vithin this large scroll forming the handle, are a series of transverse flutes. The flange projecting from below the oven door, is ornamented with a number of scrolls on its upper face, and on its curved edge are arranged a series of corrugations. The corners of this curved portion are ornamented with scrolls. Beneath the curved portion is astraight edge.
The legs are ornamented at their upper edge with scrolls which meet in the center and between which scrolls are flutes forming a fanshaped center-piece. Above this fan-shaped center-piece and extending across the legs of the stove, is a cross flute, which terminates at its ends in scrolls. Above this flute, in the middle of the leg, are small corrugations, while scrolls form the upper extreme edges or corners.
At the back of the stove, extends a hot-air chamber, the bottom flange of which isin the form of a. compound curve. A raised panel, having its lower edge conformingto this compound curve, is ornamented with a series of intertwining scrolls, as shown.
The stove, as a whole, is substantially of a rectangular shape.
What I claim is- The design for stoves, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses, this 9th day of January, 1894.
EMERY D. NELLIS.
