Description
' J. CORNELISON.
Cooking Stove. No. 4,771. Patented Sept. 26, 1846."
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB CORNELISON, OF DANVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
COOKING-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 4,771, dated. September 26, 1846 To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JACOB CoRNELIsoN, of Danville, in the county of Columbia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cooking-Stoves,
ner of making, constructing, and using the same, reference being had to the accompanylng drawlngs, maklng part of thls specification, 1n wh1ch Flgure 1 1s an lsometrlcal view showing the under side and back; and Fig. 2, a section taken at the line (X X) Fig. 1.
The same letters indicate like parts in all the figures.
The nature of my improvement consists in the combination and arrangement of the flues, in a stove having two ovens, with the fire between them so as to distribute the heat equally around either or both. Its construction is as follows: The form of the stove is an oblong box having a flue projecting from the backand bottom at the center; the top of the stove is furnished with boiler holes in the usual way, and its interior is divided into three principal parts, the middle one (a) forms the fire chamber and extends from back to front; it is furnished with a door, and below a hearth projects as is usual in such structures. On each side of the fire V chamber there is an oven on level withit, the
top, bottom, and outside or side opposite the fire chamber of which are surrounded by a flue (b) the flues of both ovens unite under the fire chamber, where there is an enlargement made by a projection (0) downward, and this flue connects at the back of the fire chamber with an upright flue (cl), outside, which oins the stove pipe. Near the top of the stove there is a damper (e) which opens a direct communication with the stove pipe, and when this is open the heat is all carried off from the ovens; but when it is closed, the heat is carried around one or both ovens as the cook may desire. If the heat is only to be carried around one oven, the damper (h) which is situated in the oven flue is closed on the side from which the heat is .to be cut off; the heat, &c.,' follows the direction of the arrows around the ovens when the-damper (6) is closed and distributes the heat in the most perfect manner around them.
Having thus described my improvement, what I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The construction and arrangement of the flues combined in the manner described with the double oven stove, having a fire chamber between them.
, JACOB CORNELISON.
