Description

c. w. GRANNIS.
Cook Stove.
Patented Fb. 1, 1847.
UNITED STATES PATENT oFF1oE.
cHs. w. GRANNIS, or COLLINS, NEW YORK.
HEATING ELEVATED OVENS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 4,950, dated February 1, 1847.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. GRANNIs, of Collins, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stoves, and that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the principle or character which distinguishes it from all other things before known and of the manner of making,.co-n structing, and using the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in wh1ch'- Figure 1 is an isometrical view of the stove, and Fig. 2, a vertical section thereof.
The same letters indicate like parts in all the figures.
The nature of my invention consists in the manner of heating air and conveying it to the oven of an elevated-oven-cooking stove, it bein applicable at the same time to all the different forms of stoves with elevated ovens.
I will describe one of the methods of, construction and the arrangement thereof, as shown in the drawings, which is a cooking stove of ordinary form having a fire place (a) in front with four boiler holes 011 top and an elevated oven (6) over the rear end supported on two pipes (0). At the back of the fire chamber (a) there is an air chamber (d) formed by a double back as is common in many stoves (this chamber and the pipe leading therefrom are shown in Fig. 1 by red lines and in Fig. 2 in section.) From the center of the top of the air chamber (d) a pipe (6) leads off horizontally to the back of the stove between the boiler holes where it is intersected by a branch pipe (f) at right angles which projects on each side under the upright pipes (0) above named from which two pipes ascend, one up the center of each fiue (c) and open into the inside of the oven. The air enters the chamber (d) through holes in its bottom and is thence conveyed up into the oven as indicated by the red arrows in a heated state. The smoke passes up around the air pipe and enters the jacket of the elevated oven in the usual way.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination of the air heating apparatus with the stove and elevated oven, substantially in the manner described.
I CHARLES W. GRANNIS. Witnesses:
DAVID GRANNIS,
JAMES H. MGMILLAN.
