SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,525, dated June 13, 1893.
Application filed May 15, 1893. Serial No. 474,357. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY W. I'IIRSCHFELD, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and ate of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for the Handles of Spoons, Forks, 850.; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents a face view.
This invention relates to a design for the handles of spoons, forks, and like articles of table-service, and the design consists in the configuration and ornamentation of the handle as shown in the accompanying illustration.
The tip A, is of an elongated shield-shape, the lower end of the shield resting upon the gradually tapering handleportion B, the edges of which curve slightly inward, then outward, and then inward, when they merge into the body or bowl of the spoon.
The shield-shaped tip A, has an elongated central panel a upon its outer face, slightly wider at its lower than at its upper end, and surmounted by volute scrolls a, surrounding an oval medallion a having its surface ornamented by checker-work a At the edges of the central panel a, is a narrow beading b, which is bordered by a shell-like scroll 0 forming the outer edges of the shield-shaped tip A, and dying out at the lower end, where the panel is represented as overlapped by scrollwork, surmounting a medallion C, forming the lower portion of the shield, and having upon its surface interlaced fret-work (I. Below the shield-shaped tip, the handle B, is ornamented by scrolls 6, below which is a ribbon f, formed into a loop, its ends then extending parallel along the narrow portion of the handle to near the bowl, where they cross each other at an angle, and branch out into scrolls g.
I claim The design for the handles of spoons, forks, &c., as described and shown in the accompanying illustration.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY W. HIRSCHFELD.
