Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY A. GRIFFIN, OF BROOKLYN, NENV YORK.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,829, dated J une 9, 1891.
Application filed May 18, 1891. Serial No. 393,219. Term of' patent 7 years.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY A. GRIFFIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, which represents a plan view of a piece of carpet ornamented in accordance with my design.
The design consists of square bloclolike figures A and A', arranged one above the other and at opposite sides of border figures B, the general appearance caused by the arrangement of the figures simulating a check pattern. The block-like figures A are formed by a series of heavy diagonally-grouped lines a and light straight lines a'. The lines a essentially cover the entire surface, exceptL4 at the center, at which point a square d2 is formed by the light lines a', the face of the square being covered by diagonal lines a3 of medium width. The block-1ike figures A contrast with the iigures A and are formed by grouping straight lightlines b, crossed by diagonal lines b of medium thickness. The diagonal lines b arc, however, omitted at thc center of the block, at which point a square b2 is formed by heavy lines b3, arranged diagonally, but in a direction opposite to the direction of the medium heavy lines b'.
I claim- The design for a carpet, substantially as herein shown and described.
HENRY A. GRIFFIN. lVitnesses:
