Description

DFIQVJING FQGE UNAK 'QILABLE DOCUMENT NUMBER UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT H. .KLINGEL, OF BRIDGEPORT, ASSIGNOR TO THE HOLMES & EDXVARDS SILVER COMPANY, OF WEST STBATFORD, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A SPOON, FORK, 80G.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,316, dated May 15, 1888.
Application filed March 27,1888. Serial No. 268,680. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, ROBERT H. KLINGEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Spoons, Forks, 810.; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
The drawing is an elevation of a spoon embodying my novel design.
In outline the handle is narrowest at the shank. The lines of the sides of the handle are straight or slightly concave and diverge from the upper portion of the shank. The upper edge of the handle is an approximately circular curve. At the upper end of the ban dle there is a perfectly-plain panel, the lower end of which terminates in convex lines extending from opposite sides and meeting at the center, thereby giving to the panel approximately the shape of an oval, terminating in a point. Thelinesboundingthelowerendofthe panelare denoted by 1. Similar lines, denoted by 2, extend from the center to the sides of the handle below, thus forming below the panel two approximately triangular figures with their apexes meeting at the center. These figures are denoted by 3. The surfaces are ordinarily roughened or frosted and are ornamented by scroll-work. Directly below the panel, its upper end being formed by the lower lines of the two triangular figures, is a panel, 4, the-surface of which is roughened or frosted, and which is ornamented by a series of divergent raised bars, 5, curved and rounded at their upper ends. Below the divergent bars are crossbars, there being space between the two central bars for three cross-shaped figures, 6. Below the cross bars is a series of diver gent vertical bars, 7; below these other crossbars having figures between the two central bars; below this second series of bars a panel, 8, the surface of which is frosted or roughened and ornamented by a rosette, 9; below the rosette two crossbars denoted by 10, and below these crossbars another ornament, denoted by 11, which consists of a curved figure, a number of curved lines, and alongitudinal bar having at its upper end a dot within the curved figure and at its lower end a small rosette.
Having thus described my invention, I clai1n- The design for the ornamentation of handles of spoons, forks, &c., herein shown and described, the same consisting, essentially, of a plain panel at the upper end, triangular figures 3, whose apeXes meet at the center and which form the lower lines of said panel, below said triangular figures and partially inclosed thereby a panel ornamented by aseries of divergent bars, curved and rounded at their upper ends, below the bars cross-bars, below the crossbars divergent longitudinal bars 7, and below the divergent bars other cross-bars and rosettes.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
