Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JOHN L. POPE, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
DESIGN FOR A CARRIAGE-STEP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,427, dated November 14, 1882,
Application filed August 2, 1882. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,JQ11N L. POPE, of Oleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a. new and original Design for Oarriage-Steps,ot'which the following is aspecification, reference being had to the accompanyingphotographicillustration, forming part thereof.
My invention relates to a design for carriagesteps; and its novelty consists in the ornamenting of the top surface of the plate or step in such a. manner as to produce at about its center four Geneva crosses made integral with one another, and each connecting with another partially-formed cross.
In the accompanying photograph the four united Geneva crosses will be found marked with the letters I) b b b, and it will be plainly seen that they are all formed of raised work, which is so disposed as to make one or more of the sides of each cross form aside or a part of an adjoining cross.- From these unitedcrosses the raised or ribbed work is extended outwardly and made to form the four other connectingpartially-com pleted crosses, thatl have designated by the letters 0 a e r, and from the extremities of these latter figures, as well as the four erossesbb b I), the restot' the inetalcomposing the plate is cast in solid form with the ornamental raised borders d e. The spaces between the figures band 0 may be cast solid instead of open, as shown, and the raised ornamentation will still show in relietthedistinct ire features of my design.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A design for a carriagestep, consisting of four united Geneva crosses, b b b b, and the four connected figures o c c c, substantially as shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 31st tiny of May, 1882.
' JOHN L. POPE. in presence of-- A. A. POPE, 0. M. GoPP.
