Description

DIE-203- OR D 139428 EX IUOvEmbER UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JOHN L. POPE, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
l DESIGN FOR A CARRIAGE-STEP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,428, dated November 14, 1882.
Application filed August. 2, 1882. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it. may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. POPE, of Uleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga. and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a. new and original Design for Carriage-Steps,ofwhich the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyingphotographic illustration, forming part thereof.
My invention relates to a new design for carriage-steps; and it consists in the ribbed ornamentation shown, and to be hereinafter more particularly llt'SCl'llJBtl.
In the accompanying photograph the center figure of the step is composed, as shown, of ribbed or raised work, and has the appearance of a quarteri'oil with a cross, b, in the middle. This figure is produced by the employment of two incomplete ellipses, a c, oppositely disposed, an da ribbed cross joined thereto. Near each of the four corners of the plate, and running obliquely thereof, will be seen alarge partially-formed elliptical-shaped figure, d, of ribbed work, the same in outline as either of those marked ac. On account of the directionin which the figures d are laid out, the
crosses 11 appear to be X-shaped, when viewed perpendicularly to the sides of the step. At each corner of the plate I have placed an additional ornament ot' ribbed work, triangularlike in contour, and have marked it with the letter 6.
The openings between the various figures are not essential to the novelty of my design, the gist oil which lies in the ornamental ribbed work disposed as described.
What 1 claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A new design for a carriage-step plate, consisting ofthe ribbed central figure,a. b c,and the surrounding raised figures I) d, with or without the figure e, substantially as shown.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 31st day of May, 1882.
JOHN L. POPE.
In presence of- A. A. Porn, 0. M. Corr.
