Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY SOHOEFFLER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR T0 JOHN TIMMES, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR GATE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 11,444, dated September 30, 1879'; application filed August 20, 1879. [Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY SCHOEFFLER, of Brooklyn, in the county ot' Kings and State ot' New York, have originated a new Design for Gates, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying photographic illustration, making part of this specification.
The accompanying l'ihotographic view shows a gate of my design, which I will now proceed to describe.
The letter A designates two posts with top and bottom ornaments, the top ornaments consisting of a capital, b, moldings o, and a peak, d, while the bottom ornaments consist of a base, c, prismf, and knob g.
The letter B designates a base rail, and C a top rail, connecting the posts A, the said rail having re-entering curved ends, as shown. The base-rail B is straight, and carries a row of pendent knobs, It, while the top rail, O, is arched and perforated near its ends, as at i.
The letter D designates a vase with flowers, and E foliage, both surinounting the top rail, O, the foliage being on opposite sides of the vase.
Intermediate of the two rails B C are scrolls G H, which are represented as emanating, together with a bunch of leaves, I, from an ornamented band having a row of beads. The
scrolls G extend in a lower direction, and from the ends thereof, where they vanish in rosettes k, depend beads l, these beads being repre sented as sustained by strings. The scrolls H extend in an upper direction, and are joined near their ends by a crown, m.
By'these feature I obtain a design of handsome and distinguishing character.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The design for a gate, consisting, essentiallv, ot' the intermediate scrolls G H, emanating from a bunch of leaves, I, and a crown, m, arranged above the leaves, all as herein de scribed, and shown in the accompanying facsimile.
2. The design for a gate, consisting,`essentiallv, of the intermediate scrolls G H, emanating from a bunch of leaves, I, the crown m, arranged above the leaves, and the side rosettes, la k, having pendent beads l l, all as herein described, and shown in the accompanying fac-simile.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 4th day of August, 1879.
HENRY SUHOEFFLER.
