Description

UNITED STATES PATENT GFFIGE,
BENJAMIN WEIAND, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR T() SCHNEIDER, STROHEIM St CO., 0F NEI/V YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR FURNlTrURE-COVERINGS.
Spccilication forming part of Design No. 11.393, dated September-2, 1879; application tiled June 24, 1879.
' [Term of patent 3 years] To all 'whom t may concern,-
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN WE1AND,of the city of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and original Design for Furniture-Coverings, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying photographic illustration, making part ot' this specitcation, in which- A A are conventional basketshaped figures, which are arranged in parallel rows, the baskets of one row alternating with the baskets ofthe adjoining rows. From the baskets rise twigs B, of which one extends toward the left-hand basket of the next row above, While the other twig has two branches, otl which one branch extends vertically in the direction of the basket in the second row above. so as to tlll up the space vertically above, the first basket, and the other branch toward the righthand basket of the next row, so as to fill up the space between the first basket and the nextadjoining basket on the right-hand side thereof. Smaller branch twigs extendingfrom the left-hand twig, and also from the middle branch, ll up the space between the baskets and adjacent twigs.
The baskets have a square base, symmetrical sides, a surmounting top piece, and a central ornament, while the twigs by which the space between the rows of baskets is lilled up are formed of leaves, berries, and Ilowers that issue from the bent stems.
The repetition of baskets and twigs forms a pleasing design of apparently irregular, yet uniform, light, and elegant character.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The design for a furniture-covering, composed of conventional baskets, arranged alternately in rows, and filling-twigs, of which one extends to the basket on the left-hand side and is provided with a small branch twig, while the other twig branches out into two parts, of which one part tills the space vertically above the basket, the other the space between the first basket and the next adjoining basket on the right-hand side ofthe former, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed it this 17th day of June, 1879.
BENJ. VVEIAND.
