[Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE SLATER BAR- KENTIN, ot' the city of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented or produced a new and original Design for Rose and Escutcheon, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, ret'crence being had to the accompanying engraving, making part of this specification.
The general outline of the rose and cscutchcon A and drop B are sufiiciently shown in the accompanying engraving.
The borders a a are composed of the zigzag bands, each upper division inclosing a pointed leaf, and each lower division a small sunken leaflet.
The border b is composed of semicircular bands inclosing conventional leaf ornaments, between which are hnsks, all in relief upon a sunken dotted ground.
The thimble c is encircled by a border, (I, composed of incised lines and dentals inclosin g a circle of quarterfoils in relief.
Upon each side of the panel 6 are perpendicular flutes f f, intersected by rosettes g 9. Within the panels h and i are foliated ornaments in relief, as shown.
The design of the drop B consists in its peculiar shape and ornamentation. Upon the upper part is a small leaf ornament within a sunken panel, followed by tlutes intersected by a rosette, and terminating with a segmental band, upon which are incised lines and dentals.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a rose and escutcheon, the design of GEORGE SLATER BARKENTIN.
